GREENVILLE, S.C. ? The Furman Fall Classic concluded on Sunday with four Furman players finishing in the top half of their respective flights.

Senior Laura Gioia ended the Fall Classic on a high note with a win over #40 Catherine Newman.

Gioia, ranked 72nd in the preseason, earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over 40th-ranked Newman of Vanderbilt to finish third in flight one.

After cruising through victories against two ranked players yesterday, sophomore Monica Arguello was tripped up by #6 Maria Mosolova of Northwestern, who defeated Arguello 6-2, 6-4 in the finals of flight two. Arguello finished second in the flight.

Two other Paladins earned top-four finishes. Freshman Susan Bitetti fell to Jessica Wente of FSU 6-1, 6-4 to finish fourth in flight five and sophomore Jennifer Betts was defeated by Erica Robertson of Vanderbilt 6-0, 6-3 to finish fourth in flight six.

The 22nd annual Furman Fall Classic ended with players representing five different schools winning their respective flights. Ani Mijacika of Clemson, ranked 2nd in the ITA Preseason poll, won flight one; #6 Maria Mosolova of Northwestern claimed the flight two championship; Jackie Wu of Vanderbilt finished first in flight three; #113 Federica Suess of FSU earned the flight four title; Samantha Orlin of Tennessee won flight five; and Zsofia Zubor, also of Tennessee, claimed the flight six title.

Furman’s Laura Gioia will travel to Pacific Palisades, Calif. on Monday to take part in the ITA/Riviera All-American this week.
