NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? Coleton Henning scored a goal and added an assist to lead Furman past the Lipscomb Bisons 2-1 in men’s soccer action at the Atlantic-Sun/SoCon Challenge on Friday evening in Nashville, Tenn.
The win, Furman’s third straight, improves the Paladins to 4-4-1 on the season while Lipscomb falls to 3-5-0.
Henning, a freshman from Shawnee, Kan., opened the scoring less than seven minutes into the match with a header from 10 yards out that helped the Paladins to a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Bisons evened the match at 1-1 at 47:02 when Garret Pettis got on the end of a cross from Miguel DaSilva and beat Paladin keeper Alec Kann to the right side. Sophomore Caleb Suri netted what would prove to be the game-winning goal at 57:57 on a double assist from Henning and freshman Eric Cobleigh.
Lipscomb fashioned a commanding 28-14 advantage in shots, but Furman held an 8-7 edge in shots on goals. Kann earned the win in goal for Furman with six saves while Brent McGee and Patrick Walsh combined to stop six shots for the Bisons.
Furman concludes play in the A-Sun/SoCon Challenge on Sunday when it faces the Belmont Bruins at 1:00 p.m. Belmont downed Wofford 1-0 on Friday in the tournament opener.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Wofford men's soccer allowed a goal with just over three minutes remaining and dropped a 1-0 decision to Belmont Friday evening in Nashville, Tenn.
The game was played fairly even with the Bruins holding a slight 10-9 shot advantage. However, the Terriers maintained a 3-1 edge in shots on goal against Belmont (5-3).
Belmont tallied the lone score at 86:54 when Wade Wonderlin knocked home a deflection off Brett Parker's original attempt past Wofford (4-5) junior goalkeeper Thomas Hunter, who was making his first start of the season and his first since Oct. 28, 2006, against UNC Greensboro in the Southern Conference Tournament.
Sophomore Wilson Hood paced the Terriers with three shots, while Will Moorad also collected a trio of attempts for the Bruins.
Wofford will continue its weekend in Nashville with a 2 p.m. (EST) Sunday meeting against Lipscomb.
