SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina women’s soccer player Arlan Whittle has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
The senior finance major sports a 3.75 GPA and scored the game-winning goal in the Catamounts’ 1-0 upset of No. 20 South Carolina. The victory over the Gamecocks was the first in school history over a ranked foe. The defender is also a team captain.
Also nominated for this week’s award were Appalachian State volleyball player Caroline Sedon, College of Charleston volleyball player Cole Dawley, The Citadel volleyball player Jessica Maas, Davidson cross country runner Caroline Sanker, UNC Greensboro volleyball player Kaitlyn Nortz, Samford cross country runner Jillian Klassen and Chattanooga volleyball player Courtney Barnes.
