BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ? In addition to preparing for Saturday evening’s home game against the Faulkner Eagles, the Samford University football team is also playing host to the Tulane University Green Wave. Due to the mandatory evacuations in New Orleans as a result of Hurricane Gustav, Tulane is also using Samford’s Seibert Stadium to practice this week as they prepare to face Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
"We're happy to try and assist a friend in need during a very difficult time," Samford director of athletics Bob Roller said. "Many coaches and student-athletes at Samford have lifelong ties with Tulane and the New Orleans area. This will hopefully take one concern off their list."
The Green Wave will practice at Seibert Stadium Monday through Thursday this week. Tulane is staying in a local Marriott for the week before heading to Tuscaloosa. In addition to Seibert Stadium, the team will also use Samford's weight-training facilities, film rooms, locker rooms, cafeteria and other facilities.
