SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Samford’s Ashley Adams has been named the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time this season as voted on by the conference sports information directors, the conference office announced Monday.

Adams, a senior outside hitter, helped lead the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record this past weekend at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Columbus, Ohio native averaged 5.45 kills and 2.45 digs per match. Adams also set a school record for kills in a match when she knocked down 31 in the Bulldogs’ five-set win over Murray State. She was named to the all-tournament team.

Adams’ selection marks the third straight week a Bulldog player has won the award as Samford’s Hillary Fountain won it last week.

Also nominated for this week’s award were Georgia Southern’s Bethany Sanford, Davidson’s Sarabeth Peele, College of Charleston’s Whitney Russell, Elon’s Traci Stewart, Western Carolina’s Amanda Kerr, UNC Greensboro’s Kayren Finney, Furman’s Alison West, Appalachian State’s Lauren Swecker, and The Citadel’s Jessica Maas.
