Cross Country Wrap Up For September 13

Furman women finish fifth; men finish seventh in Annapolis, Md.

 

ANNAPOLIS, Md. ? The Furman men’s cross country team finished seventh at the Naval Invitational, and the women’s team finished fifth at the Salty Dog Invitational, both held in Annapolis, Md. this weekend.

 

Senior Patrick Morgan led the men’s team with a 12th-place finish in the 8K, recording a time of 25:27.10. Sophomore Charles McGoogan ran a personal best in the 8K with a time of 26:43.70. The men’s team finished 7th out of a 14-team field, which included Southern Conference rival The Citadel.

 

Fellow senior Lauren Tomory led the women’s team with a third place finish, recording a time of 22:44 in the 6K. The women’s team finished 5th out of 15 teams in the invitational.

 

The cross country teams will compete again on September 27 at the Citadel Invitational.

 

 

The Citadel women finish 12th; men finish 14th in Annapolis, Md.

 

ANNAPOLIS, Md. ? Katheryn Gatewood led the women’s team with a 6k time of 25:35 while Brendan Kight led the men for the second straight week with an 8k time of 27:28 as The Citadel cross country teams competed at the Salty Seadog Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Saturday morning. The women’s team finished 12th while the men’s team placed 14th.

 

Gatewood led the women last week at the 5k Eye Opener meet in Spartanburg and paced the Bulldogs for the second consecutive week. Natalie Wolin followed Gatewood with a time of 26:09.

On the men’s side, Kight continued to set the pace for the men’s team while Alex Anderson stepped up to finish second with a time of 28:41. Zach Johnson finished third, running 28:49.

The Bulldogs take a week off before hosting the 28th Annual Citadel Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27 at James Island County Park.
