College of Charleston Announces 2008 Cross Country Slate

Charleston, S.C -- A trip to the Virginia Tech Invitational, along with first time trips to the Eye Opener Invite in Spartanburg, S.C. and the Blue Ridge Open hosted by Appalachian State highlight the 2008 Men's and Women's College of Charleston Cross Country schedule.

“I think our schedule affords us good balance,” said cross country head coach Amy Seago. “We’ll be able to see how we stack up against conference competition and also be challenged by some of the better teams in the region. The different levels of competition in which we’ll run into will help the athletes in our program learn and improve.”

The Cougars compete at The Citadel Invitational and the Furman Invitational for the second consecutive year. Last season, the women’s squad registered a second place finish at The Citadel Invitational, while the men’s team finished fourth. The Cougars close out the regular season with the 2008 Southern Conference Championships November 1st at Wofford.

The Cougars are coming off an impressive 2007 season, in which the women’s team recorded four top-five finishes, while the men’s squad registered three top-five finishes. Top runners returning include sophomore Becky Steward, who earned a SoCon Runner of the Week honor during the course of last season and first place finishes in two races. On the men’s side, sophomore Brad Meyer returns after recording four top-10 finishes last season.
