SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford women's basketball team and head coach Edgar I. Farmer Jr. have unveiled the Terriers' 2008-09 schedule, highlighted by the program's first trip to Pennsylvania and second endeavor to New York along with a sixth-straight meeting with Elite Eight participant North Carolina.
"We are excited about the quality of opponents on our non-conference schedule," said Farmer. "This season will see us travel to New York City for the first time in school history. We also have the opportunity to face North Carolina once again, the defending ACC champion, along with reigning Patriot League title holders Bucknell.
"The Southern Conference only continues to get stronger and deeper with the addition of Samford this season. Our goal is to be well prepared for league action following the challenging non-conference slate."
Wofford will open the campaign at home against Coastal Carolina Nov. 19 before hitting the road for three-straight contests, starting with a Nov. 25 tilt at North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Terriers then head for the Sunshine State after Thanksgiving to face Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 28) and North Florida (Nov. 30).
A pair of home games open December, including the first Southern Conference contest of the season Dec. 4 against newcomer Samford. Two days later the Terriers will travel to Bronx, N.Y., to face Atlantic 10 foe Fordham in the first-ever matchup with the Lady Rams.
Perennial league powers Chattanooga and Western Carolina come to Benjamin Johnson Arena for a pair of games following a week break for final exams. Wofford will then battle Bucknell in another first-time meeting Dec. 19 in the final game before Christmas.
The Terriers resume action Dec. 30 at Davidson and Jan. 3 at Furman before closing the non-conference portion of their ledger at home against Southern Virginia Jan. 5.
Wofford will then host seven Southern Conference members over the final two months of the season, while hitting the road for eight league contests. The final home game of the docket is Feb. 23 against Georgia Southern.
The Terriers will play in three home doubleheaders with the men's team. The Wofford women will face College of Charleston (Jan. 17), Furman (Feb. 7) and Georgia Southern (Feb. 23) in the twin-billings.
After a three-year hiatus, the Southern Conference Tournament returns to Chattanooga, Tenn. The women's schedule is slated to begin March 5 with the championship set for March 9 in McKenzie Arena.
