SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The 2008-09 athletic season begins Friday when seven Southern Conference teams hit the field in women’s soccer action.
Three SoCon teams will host their season openers on Friday, as UNC Greensboro entertains Coastal Carolina, Chattanooga hosts 13th-ranked Tennessee and College of Charleston hosts Jacksonville. The Cougars’ match was originally scheduled to be played in Jacksonville, Fla., but the arrival of Tropical Storm Fay necessitated that the match be moved. Charleston’s Sunday match against North Florida has also been moved from Jacksonville to Charleston.
Also opening the season on Friday will be Samford, as the Bulldogs travel to Austin, Texas to take on No. 8 Texas in its first-ever competition as a Southern Conference member.
In addition, Western Carolina visits East Carolina, Georgia Southern visits Gardner-Webb and Wofford travels to North Carolina State.
