Players to Watch:

Defensive Lineman Terrence Reese

Andre Roberts, Jr., Wide Receiver

Roberts led the Bulldogs in receiving in 2007, hauling in a school-record 78 passes for 1,060 yards as a sophomore. He also caught 10 touchdown passes on the year including a streak where he caught one TD pass in each of The Citadel’s final six contests.

Terrence Reese, Jr., DL

The 6’0”, 294-lb. Reese recorded 41 tackles in 2007, including seven tackles for loss. Reese will help to anchor a Bulldogs defensive that led the SoCon in total defense a year ago.

Preview:

Kevin Higgins’ tenure at The Citadel continued on an upward swing in 2007 as the Bulldogs posted their first winning overall record since 1997 while also posting a 4-3 SoCon mark and tying for third place.

Wide receiver Andre Roberts will again be a focal point in Higgins’ offensive plans this season after setting a school record with 78 catches last season. Leading The Citadel’s offense will be sophomore quarterback Bart Blanchard who broke onto the scene at the end of 2007 with a pair of three-TD performances in the final two games of the season.

In addition to returning six starters on offense, The Citadel also boasts six returnees on defense, including defensive linemen Terrence Reese and Kevin McCaskill. Senior defensive back Jonathan Vest should also fill a leadership role on defense while punter Mark Kaspar, an all-conference selection in 2007, gives the Bulldogs a key weapon on special teams.

The Citadel’s schedule is one of the most challenging in the country, featuring road contests against FBS opponents Clemson and Florida as well as trips to face last seasons SoCon co-champions Appalachian State and Wofford.
