SAMFORD FOOTBALL WORKS OUT IN SHELLS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.?The Samford football team practiced for about two hours in shells Tuesday morning at Seibert Stadium.

“Today was kind of sloppy, but it picked up toward the end,” Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said. “We just worked on some base stuff, finishing up certain situations. We were able to run a goal-line period. We haven’t started working on West Georgia yet, we will begin that tomorrow (Wednesday).”

Sullivan said in Thursday’s situational scrimmage, the Bulldogs will look to go over situations that will come up during a game.

“We just want to cover all the situations that could possibly happen in a game,” Sullivan said. “We’ll cover the hands team, the desperation kick, kicking after a safety and all the different things that could possible happen in a game.

“We’ll get in a two-minute situation, both offensively and defensively, and we’ll work on punt return and punt block,” Sullivan said. “All the different things you would see in a game.”

Samford will practice again Wednesday morning at 9:20 a.m. at Seibert Stadium. In Wednesday’s workout, the Bulldogs will begin working on their season-opener against West Georgia. Thursday night’s situational scrimmage is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.

Samford opens the 2008 season on Thursday, Aug. 28, when the Bulldogs play host to West Georgia. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium.

We also did two past skeleton drills with one of them being a move the ball period.”

The Bulldogs will return to the Maybank Triplets practice facility at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday for their only practice of the day. They will have a two-a-day on Thursday and one practice on Friday morning before holding their last scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
