Charleston, S.C. -- For the second time this season, former College of Charleston standout Brett Gardner has been recalled by the New York Yankees.

Gardner was hitting .296 with three homers, 32 RBI and 37 stolen bases at Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre.  The Holly Hill, S.C. native collected eight hits over his last three games for Scranton-Wilkes Barre.

Gardner, an outfielder, played in 17 games for New York earlier this season and scored eight runs and stole five bases. His first stint with the Yankees was highlighted by his two-out, RBI single off Boston's Jonathan Papelbon in the bottom of the 10th inning that gave New York a 5-4 win over the Red Sox on on July 6.

Gardner, 24, was the Yankees' third round pick in 2005 after hitting .447 with the Cougars and leading the nation with 122 hits in 2005.  He helped the Cougars to a 27-3 league mark and a 48-15 record in 2005.  The Cougars won the 2005 SoCon regular season title and participated in the Clemson Regional.
 
Gardner played for the Cougars from 2002 through 2005.  He posted a .368 career average over 217 games with eight homers, 141 RBI and 97 career stolen bases.
