Terrell Hudgins, Jr., Wide Receiver
Hudgins earned first-team all-American honors in 2007 after setting SoCon single-season records for receptions (117) and most consecutive games with at least 100 yards receiving (seven). Hudgins twice went over the 200-yard mark in a game, including a 219-yard, four-touchdown effort against Liberty.
Corey Weaver, Sr., Linebacker
As a junior, Weaver recorded 80 tackles and 10.5 tackles for loss as Elon finished one game out of first place in the league standings. Weaver was a first-team all-SoCon pick by the coaches in 2007.
Preview:
Elon burst onto the national scene in 2007 after finishing 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the SoCon behind a high-powered passing attack. In his two seasons at the helm, head coach Pete Lembo has guided the Phoenix to a two-win improvement from the previous season, and if that trend is to continue in 2008, the Phoenix will again need standout performances from the aerial duo of QB Scott Riddle and WR Terrell Hudgins.
Riddle, a unanimous SoCon Freshman of the Year pick in 2007, led the nation in passing yards per game with 3,817 yards and 31 touchdowns over 11 contests. Hudgins also paced the nation in receptions per game (10.64) and receiving yards per game (134.0).
On defense, Elon returns 10 of 11 starters, including leading tacklers Brandon Wiggins and Corey Weaver. Also returning are defensive back Karlos Sullivan and linemen Tim Happer and Eric Ludwig.
Punter Brandon Lane and place kicker Andrew Wilcox are experienced seniors who could help the Phoenix in tight contests this season.
