GREENVILLE, S.C. ? Furman women’s tennis athletes Lauren Tomory and Laura Gioia have both been named 2008 ITA Scholar Athletes, the ITA announced Friday.

Tomory, a senior from Vicenza, Italy, finished the 2007-08 season with an

11-7 singles record, including a 6-1 record in conference play. She has been named an ITA Scholar Athlete for three consecutive years

Gioia, a senior from Tampa, Fla., racked up a 22-2 singles record in

2007-08 as well as a 19-4 doubles record. She earned first team all-conference honors in singles and doubles and has been named an ITA Scholar Athlete for three consecutive years.

The women’s tennis team is set to begin its fall season on Sept. 12 at the Landfall Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.
