Charleston, S.C. ? The Citadel Football team will officially return to the gridiron for the 2008 season as they kick-off fall camp at the Maybank Triplets Practice Facility at Willson Field on Monday, Aug. 4 at 8 a.m.
Head Coach Kevin Higgins, who recently signed a five-year extension with the Bulldogs, and his staff will begin preparations for the upcoming season which starts on Saturday, Aug. 30 against Webber International in the “White Game” sponsored by AT&T and presented by Jones Ford.
The Citadel ended 2007 with the first winning season in 15 years. Tying for third place in the Southern Conference final standings, the Bulldogs concluded the season, 7-4, marking the first seven-win season since The Citadel won the SoCon Championship in 1992.
Heading into preseason training, the Bulldogs are ranked in the top 25 in several polls with their highest ranking at No. 16 and holding the No. 24 spot in the College Sporting News preseason poll. Picked to finish sixth in the SoCon by both the coaches and media, the Bulldogs have five players selected to preseason teams.
In his fourth season at the helm of Bulldog Football, Higgins returns all his coordinators for the third consecutive season to lead the Bulldogs’ who take on Bowl Subdivision Clemson and Florida in 2008. The Citadel also expects to open the long-awaited West Side Tower at the renovated Johnson Hagood Stadium that includes a state-of-the art club level, press box and suites.
