SPARTANBURG, SC ? The Wofford College football team will begin preparations for the 2008 season when they report to campus on Sunday, August 3. The team will have their first practice on Monday, August 4, with the first full pads practice scheduled for Friday, August 8.

 

On Sunday, the 90 players on the camp roster will report to campus. Players not on the 90-man roster are not allowed to take part in practice until the first day of class. The first two practices will be in helmets only, while the third and fourth practice will be in shoulder pads only. The team will have six days with two-practices, beginning on Saturday, August 9.

 

“We are excited about getting started,” said head coach Mike Ayers. “It has been a while since we have played. Last year the team that we had was a really good football team and ended up winning a share of the Southern Conference Championship. We have a new team now. A lot of kids graduated and it is going to take 29 practices to find out what we are all about. The guys that are returning we feel have worked really hard and we are excited about some of the young kids that are coming in with the freshman group. Camp will be tough as always. It will be hot and it will be one of those trying things mentally and physically for the players and the staff. We have worked hard in our preparation and are ready to go.”

 

Practice will be held on the intramural field next to Gibbs Stadium until the end of Carolina Panther training camp. All practices are open to the public; however keep in mind that the schedule can change without notice.

 

The Terriers will open the 2008 season on Saturday, August 30 against Presbyterian at Gibbs Stadium. Tickets are available by calling the Wofford Ticket Office at 864-597-4090.
