ELON, N.C. -- Six former Elon baseball players are continuing their playing careers in the minor leagues with five different major league organizations.  Paul Bennett, Zach Booker, Chris Vasami, Steven Hensley, Donny Jobe and Chris Dove are all playing pro ball.  Bennett has reached the highest level after being promoted to the Richmond Braves of the AAA International League earlier this week.

Bennett, a 2006 Elon graduate, had made stops with the high-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans and AA Mississippi Braves before his promotion within the Atlanta Braves organization.  This season, Bennett appeared in a total of 12 games with the Pelicans and 47 with the AA squad before his move to Richmond.  In a combined 59 games, Bennett has batted .185 with 15 runs scored, five doubles, a triple and 13 RBI.  He is also 2-for-4 in stolen base attempts.

Booker, who ended his career with Elon following the 2007 season, is currently playing for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, a short-season A squad in the Cleveland Indians' organization.  Booker has batted .222 in 54 at bats over 19 games.  The catcher/first baseman has scored nine runs and recorded three doubles and a homer to go along with 10 RBI.  In his last 10 contests, Booker has hit .304, scored five times and driven in six.

Vasami, another class of 2007 member, is playing for the Tri-City Dust Devils in the short-season A Northwest League for the Colorado Rockies' organization.  In 21 appearances, Vasami has logged 68 at bats.  The first baseman is hitting .265 with eight runs scored, four doubles, a triple, a home run and eight RBI.  Vasami has driven in six runs while hitting .281 in his last 10 games.

Hensley, a fourth round pick by the Mariners in 2008, is currently on the disabled list as a member of the Everett AquaSox, also a member of the short-season A Northwest League.  Prior to his injury, Hensley had made eight appearances, including six starts on the mound.  He was 2-1 with a 5.22 ERA, throwing 29.1 innings.  Hensley, Elon's all-time leader in career strikeouts, put up some impressive totals in that category, fanning 32 hitters while only walking nine.

Jobe, who finished his Elon career in 2008, suffered an injury early in his professional career with the Arizona Rookie League Mariners in the Seattle Mariners' organization.  The infielder hit .083 in just 12 at bats before the injury.

Dove, another 2008 draftee, is playing for the Arizona Rookie League Rangers in the Texas Rangers' organization.  In 15 games, Dove has batted .227 over 44 at bats.  The outfielder has scored 10 times, has a double, a triple and has driven in five runs.  He is 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts.
