GREENVILLE, S.C. ? Members of the Southern Conference media agreed with the league’s coaches in voting Appalachian State as the favorite to win the 2008 Southern Conference football crown, it was announced Wednesday at the 2008 Southern Conference Football Rouser presented by the Carolina Ford Dealers and held at the Embassy Suites in Greenville, S.C.
The Mountaineers received 29 of 30 first-place votes and 268 points overall to claim the top spot. Elon (215 points) was predicted to finish second while Georgia Southern (191) earned the third position in the media poll. The Eagles also collected one first-place vote.
2007 SoCon co-champion Wofford (185) was slated to finish fourth and was followed by Furman (158), The Citadel (148) and Chattanooga (83). Western Carolina (53) and SoCon-newcomer Samford (49) claimed the final two spots in the poll.
