Women's Tennis Earns Regional Ranking of 11th

GREENVILLE, S.C. ? The Furman women’s tennis team has earned a regional ranking of 11th in the Southeast Region, the ITA announced recently.

The Paladins earned an 11th-place ranking, ahead of fellow SoCon schools College of Charleston and Davidson, ranked 12th and 13th, respectively.

The Paladins finished the 2008 season with a 19-6 overall record and a perfect 9-0 league mark.

In the regional singles poll, junior Laura Gioia earned a ranking of 16th, while freshman Monica Arguello made the list at the number 30 spot.

In addition, Gioia earned a final national ranking of 99 in the ITA poll.

CofC Women's Tennis Ranked 12th In Southeast Region

The College of Charleston women's tennis team finished 12th in the 2008 Southeast Region rankings, it was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The Cougars' 23-4 record this spring set the school's NCAA record for most wins in a season. Charleston's old NCAA mark was 22-4 in 2003.  The school's overall single-season record was set in 1977-78 when the Cougars posted a 25-5 record against NAIA competition. Charleston posted an 8-1 Southern Conference mark.

Anna Lee Evans had an 18-match win streak during the season. 

The Cougars also finished the season ranked fifth nationally in total attendance. The Cougars totaled 1,313 fans over 14 home matches this season at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
