ERIN, WA ? After a bumpy opening round a day earlier, UNC Greensboro’s Erica Creed responded Tuesday with a 76 to earn a place in the match play phase at the United States Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship at Erin Hills Golf Club.

Creed, a native of Kernersville, NC who will be a sophomore next year, carded her 76 to finish tied for 27th in the 151-player field. A total of 64 players are bracketed into the match play phase beginning Wednesday. However, tiebreakers were still being settled late Tuesday and pairings had not yet been set. An eight-way tie for the last seven spots was settled shortly after 9 pm local time (central) to get down to the 64-player field.

As was the case on Monday when she shot a 79, the front nine was not kind to Creed. She shot a 40 on the front side with four bogeys and five pars on Tuesday. However, on a day when only five sub-par rounds were recorded amidst the 151 players, a birdie on No. 10 and eight consecutive pars sent Creed to the round of 64, marking the second straight year a Spartan advanced to match play at the event. Last year, Ashley Mylton advanced to the match play phase before being knocked out in the opening round.
