NEW ORLEANS, La. - For the third time since 1995, Appalachian State's John Weaver has been named the Southeast Region men's outdoor track and field Coach of the Year, the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Monday. Weaver led the men's team to its 16th outdoor championship in school history and was named the SoCon Coach of the Year for the seventh time.
The Mountaineers posted nine individual championships at the Southern Conference Championships and saw senior Wes Kiser take home Most Outstanding Field Performer as well as Most Outstanding Performer at the meet while Phillip Bush was named the SoCon Freshman of the Year.
Six ASU men competed in the NCAA East Regional competition in seven events as well.
Coach Weaver became the full-time head coach of the women's program in 1982 and added the men to his scope in 1995. During his 26 years in Boone, the Fayetteville, N.C. native has won 39 conference team championships and 23 SoCon Coach of the Year awards.
