Albuquerque, N.M. -- Furman’s Stefanie Kenoyer fired a final round 74 to pace the Paladins with a top 30 finish at the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship at the University of New Mexico Championship Course on Friday.
Furman (312-313-315-313=1253), ranked 34th in the latest GolfweekSagarin Performance Index, carded a final round 313 to finish the tournament in 24th. Southern Cal and UCLA were in first and second place, respectively, with six holes to play at the time of this release (6:30 p.m. ET). Tiffany Joh of UCLA held a one-stroke lead at two-under as the field racing to finish before darkness.
Kenoyer (76-74-75-74=299), Furman’s low scorer in all four rounds, birdied the first hole of the day (No. 10) and capped the day with a birdie at No. 9 to finish at 11-over-par for the 72-hole tournament. The freshman and Southern Conference individual medalist suffered a bump in the road with a double bogey at sixteen and bogey at seventeen before sinking a four-foot birdie to end her round at two-over.
Sophomore Corrine Carr (80-82-80-77=319) followed with a final round 77 while Ashley Baker and Blair Lamb contributed at nine-over-par 81 for the Paladins.
The Paladins, featuring a lineup that included two freshmen, two sophomores and a junior, played the final round in cold and breezy conditions with periods of rain. Heavy winds and more rain greeted the top 12 teams in the field as began their rounds in the afternoon.
