Albuquerque, N.M. -- Freshman Stefanie Kenoyer posted a three-over 75 to lead Furman in the third round at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship at the University of New Mexico Championship Course on Thursday afternoon.
Kenoyer (76-74-75=235), a native of Lighthouse Point, Fla., notched two birdies and played the front nine at one-over to grab a share of 27th place. The Paladins, who shot 315 in round three, climbed as high as 20th early in the day, but a handful of double bogeys and a triple bogey down the stretch relegated Furman back to the same spot it was in at the beginning of the round. Several teams remained on the course with a couple of holes left when play was suspended by darkness shortly after 8 p.m.
The 30-plus hole day began when the Paladins opened the Thursday at 7 a.m. finishing the final 14-17 holes of their second round that was suspended due to heavy winds on Wednesday. The third round was scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., but the threat of weather pushed tee times back to 1 p.m. Just 15 minutes into the round, lightning forced the fifth stoppage of play in the last 24 hours. Play resumed at 2:15 p.m. and did not end until after 8 p.m. MT.
Final round play in the 72-hole tournament is set to begin Friday morning at 8 a.m. following the completion of the third round. Friday's weather calls for continued windy conditions and a 20% chance of rain.
