SoCon to Sponsor Strikeout Cancer Clinic

As part of the Southern Conference Baseball Championships, the league will sponsor a Strikeout Cancer Clinic on Tuesday, May 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Joe Riley Park in Charleston, S.C. The clinic is open to all boys and girls 12 years of age or younger. Attendees will receive passes to the SoCon Baseball Tournament which will be played at Joe Riley Park May 20-25.

Coaches and players from Southern Conference schools will participate in the clinic which will be hosted by the Charleston RiverDogs.

“We look forward to hosting this event,” said Riverdogs general manager Dave Echols. “Awareness of the terrible disease is important and we are glad to do our part.”

“The Strikeout Cancer Clinic is a great opportunity to reach out and show your support for the fight against cancer,” said College of Charleston coach John Pawlowski. “With a staff of SoCon coaches and players on hand, this unique clinic will help broaden awareness of the disease while refining your baseball skills.”

Pawlowski’s 13-year-old daughter, Mary-Louise was recently diagnosed with PNET (primitive neuroectodermal tumors), a rare malignancy seen in only two percent of children with cancer. Last month, she underwent successful surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from her chest.
