ESPN Honors 11 SoCon Academic Baseball Standouts

ESPN The Magazine announced 11 Southern Conference baseball players were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) All-District team.

 

The Citadel outfielder Chris Swauger and UNC Greensboro designated hitter Greg Feltes earned first-team honors. A native of Tampa, Fla, Swauger has a 3.94 grade point average majoring in business administration while Feltes, who hails from Rocky River, Ohio, has a 3.44 GPA in finance.

 

Appalachian State infielder David Towarnicky, The Citadel infielder Chris McGuiness and Georgia Southern outfielder David Richardson earned second-team recognition. A native of New Bern, N.C., Towarnicky has a 4.00 average in accounting. McGuiness, from James Island, S.C., has a 3.97 average in business administration. Richardson, from Dahlonega, Ga., has a 3.90 average while majoring in exercise science.

 

Western Carolina pitcher Tyler Sexton, Appalachian State catcher Andrew Franco, Georgia Southern infielder Brian Pierce and outfielder Chris Shehan, Elon outfielder Chris Dove and Wofford outfielder Kyle Behrendt was named to third-team all-district.

 

Sexton, from High Point, N.C., has a 3.98 GPA majoring in sport management while Franco, a native of Niceville, Fla., has a 3.29 GPA majoring in finance and banking. Roswell, Ga. native Pierce has a 3.83 average majoring in finance and Dove, from Burlington, N.C., has a 3.31 average in accounting. A Strasburg, Pa. native, Shehan boasts a 3.37 GPA in accounting and Behrendt, who is from Greenwood, S.C., has a 3.68 average majoring in finance.
