MT. PLEASANT, S.C. ? Chattanooga rallied from a one-run deficit with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Georgia Southern, 3-2, and force a deciding game in the championship round of the 2008 Southern Conference Softball Championship at the Patriots Point Athletics Complex.

No. 1 seed Chattanooga (40-20) and No. 2 seed Georgia Southern (37-29) will take the field again at approximately 3:40 p.m. with the winner earning the SoCon Tournament title and a bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Championships.

Georgia Southern was three outs away from a championship when it carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. UTC’s Tiffany Baker led off the frame with a double to left center, and the freshman advanced to third on a Melissa Laliberte wild pitch. After a walk was issued to Brittany Eason, Tara Tembey knocked an RBI single through the right side to even the score at two runs apiece.

With one out and runners on first and second, GSU went to the bullpen to bring in Megen Smith. Lauren Flores, the first batter Smith faced, singled to the hole at shortstop, loading the bases for Michelle Fuzzard. Fuzzard then lifted the Smith pitch to the fence in right center for a game-ending single.

After Fuzzard allowed two runs in the first three innings for Chattanooga, Brooke Loudermilk came on in relief and shut down the Eagles, allowing just one base runner in four innings on a Nina Iduate infield single. Loudermilk earned the victory, her fifth of the tournament and 18^th of the season.

Michelle Beasley scored GSU’s first run on a wild pitch by Fuzzard, and catcher Jenny Side put the Eagles up to with a two-out RBI single in the third.

Laliberte suffered the defeat for Georgia Southern, dropping to 19-12 on the season.

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. ? Chattanooga put three runs on the board in the third inning and Brooke Loudermilk tossed her fifth shutout of the season to defeat UNC Greensboro, 3-0, in game 13 of the 2008 Southern Conference Softball Championship at the Patriots Point Athletics Complex.

No. 1 seed Chattanooga (39-20) advances to the championship round of the SoCon Tournament where they will face No. 2 seed Georgia Southern at 1:30 p.m. Should UTC win that game, a second championship game would be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.

Chattanooga’s scoring rally began when Freshman of the Year Michelle Fuzzard reached on an opposite-field single to right and scored after Toni Hutchison’s double to center field. Laci Upchurch came to the plate next and belted her second home run in as many games to give the Lady Mocs a 3-0 advantage.

Loudermilk earned her fourth victory of the tournament with her second shutout of the event. The sophomore hurler struck out nine batters against just two walks while scattering four hits.

Brittany Ausley paced UNCG with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.

Hutchison was 2-for-4 on the day while Upchurch added a pair of walks to her two-run homer.

Fifth-seeded UNC Greensboro ends the season at 23-33.
