UNCG third after opening round at UNCW Lady Seahawk
WALLACE, N.C. ? Sofia Aidemark and Erica Creed are both tied for third after the opening round at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational at River Landing Golf Club.
The field was slated to play two rounds on Monday, but came up one hole shy of completing the second round before darkness set in on Monday. The groups will all return to their stopping points first thing Tuesday morning, and then play the final round shortly thereafter.
Aidemark and Creed were just two shots off the pace when the first round was completed around midday on Monday. Both trail East Carolina’s Abby Bools and Campbell’s Belen Diaz Cisneros by two shots.
The Spartans were in third place after the opening round, carding a 303.
Campbell held the team lead through the first 18 holes at 296, followed by East Carolina five shots back.
The teams will complete the second round at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday and immediately go into the third and final round of play.

CofC Women's Golf Fifth at Canes and Cardinal Classic
Miami, Fla. - Steffi Kirchmayr finished in the top 10, while Fiona Puyo and Emily Rapp placed in the top 20 to lead the College of Charleston women's golf team to fifth after the first round of the Canes and Cardinal Classic Being held April 7-8 at the Don Shula Golf Course in Miami, Fla.
The second round was called late this afternoon due to inclement weather and will resume at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday before the third round.
Louisville leads the tournament with an 18-hole total of 284. The Cougars have a 297.
Kirchmayr is tied for ninth with a 73, while Puyo and Rapp are tied for 18th with a 74 apiece. Joanna Klatten and Courtney Brink are tied for 34th with a 76 each.

Furman In 11th After Opening Round Of Canes & Cardinals Classic
Miami Lakes, Fla. -- Junior Blair Lamb carded an even-par 72 as Furman posted an opening round 303 at the Canes & Cardinals Classic at the 6,210-yard Don Shula Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla., on Monday.
The opening round was delayed more than an hour due to heavy morning rains and Monday’s second round action was suspended late in the afternoon due to lightning and wet course conditions.
Lamb notched a one-under 35 on the back nine to take a share of sixth place while freshman Stefanie Kenoyer holds 18th place after a first round 74.
Louisville carded a 284 to take a nine-stroke lead over Georgia State and 10-stroke edge over Tulsa entering the final 36 holes. South Florida and the College of Charleston rounded out the top five in the 15-team tournament. The Cardinals’ Cindy LaCrosse took the individual lead firing a five-under 67 to grab a three-stroke advantage over Kelly Fuckik of Tulsa.
Round two play will be resumed at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday with the final round scheduled to follow immediately after the completion of the second round.
Elon Opens in Ninth at UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic
WALLACE, N.C. ? Samantha Widmer fashioned a three-over-par 75 to lead all Elon athletes as the Phoenix finished the first round of the 16-team UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic in ninth place Monday on the 6,183-yard River Landing Golf Course.
Widmer followed up her 38 on the front nine holes with a 37 on the back nine to snag a share of 10th place in the 90-player field. Campbell’s Belen Diaz Cisneros (34-38?72) and East Carolina’s Abby Bools (38-34?72) claimed the early lead in the individual standings of the three-round, two-day event.
Danielle Mills (Tied-17th/38-38?76), Kelsey Johnson (Tied-43rd/40-39?79), Tara McFadden (Tied-43rd/37-42?79) and Taylor Johnson (Tied-59th/39-43?82) are all representing the Phoenix.
Upon completing the first 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament, the teams began the second round and will complete it at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday before proceeding on to the third (and final) round of play.
