FURMAN 9, PRESBYTERIAN 7 (10 inn.)
FURMAN 10, PRESBYTERIAN 9
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Rob Fondu and Joey Rodgers both hit walk-off, game winning home runs to propel Furman to a doubleheader sweep of Presbyterian in baseball action Wednesday at Furman Stadium. The Paladins won game one, 10-7, in 10 innings and captured game two, 10-9, in seven innings.
The doubleheader marked the first meeting on the diamond betwen the Paladins and Blue Hose since 1997. The sweep improves Furman to 14-11 on the seson while Presbyterian falls to 7-17.
Fondu's three-run blast to left center field in game one capped a five-run Paladin 10th inning that helped Furman overcome a 7-4 deficit. Connor Lind's two-run single in the Furman 10th made it 7-6, and after Bobby Hubbard walked, Fondu, a freshman from Katonah, N.Y., connected on his first career home run for the game winner.
In game two, Furman trailed 9-8 but tied the game with a run in the sixth before Rodgers belted a towering two-out, solo blast over the left field fence to give the Paladins the victory.
With the game tied 4-4 in the ninth in game one, Furman loaded the bases with no outs but failed to capitalize after Campbell Lewis struck out and pinch-hitter Aaron Thompkins hit in an ining ending double play.
Presbyterian then took a 7-4 lead on Jesse Harmon's three-run home run to center field off Paladin reliever Ian Parry, but Harmon couldn't seal the win from the mound for PC after retiring Nick Karow on fly ball to open the Furman 10th. Marcus Rose and Joey Rodgers delieverd back-to-back infield singles and then advanced to second and third on a passed ball before coming home on Lind's single. Two batters later Fondu on his game winning three-run clout.
Parry (3-1) picked up the victory after working allowing three hits and three runs in three innings of work. He also struck out three.
Harmon (0-4), who went 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBI, took the loss after working just 1 1/3 innings and surrendering five runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out one.
Led by Marcus Rose's 5-for-6 performance, Furman pounded out 19 hits to PC's eight in game one. Jay Jackson and Nick Karow both went 3-for-5, and Ryan Lee belted a third inning grand slam to stake the Paladins to a 4-2 lead.
In game two a three-run home run by Jay Jackson in the second inning and four-run Paladin fourth helped Furman take an 8-2 lead, but Presbyterian used three Furman errors and four hits to strike for seven runs in the fifth to take a 9-8 lead. Jared Combs greeted Paladin reliever J.P. Goldsberry with a lead off home run, and Casey Carlson completed the rally with a two-run triple that also saw him score after Paladin second baseman Cameron Allmendinger's throw skidded past third base.
Bobby Hubbard legged out a double to open the Furman sixth and later scored on a Thompkins single to tie the game.
Rodgers then delivered his walk-off solo blast in the seventh off PC reliever Joe Hammond (1-2).
Nick Karow (2-0) earned the win for Furman in game two after working a scoreless seventh.
Pacing Furman's 15-hit attack were Campbell Lewis, Hubbard, and Rodgers with three hits each. Hubbard also scored three runs. Jackson with 2-for-4 with three RBI.
PC banged out 10 hits in the nightcap, includinng three by Combs, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Carlson collected a pair of hits in three at bats and drove in a pair of runs.
Furman returns to action when it opens a three-game Southern Conference series at UNC Greensboro on Friday. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
WESTERN CAROLINA 10, UNC ASHEVILLE 7
CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Freshman Ryan Mathews laced an RBI double to right center field in the home half of the sixth inning to put Western Carolina up for good as the Catamounts completed the seasonal sweep of mountain-rival, UNC Asheville, 10-7 Wednesday night at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
Mathews finished 4-for-5, tying his career-high for hits in a single game while also extending his current hitting streak to 14-straight games. Sophomore Brent Greer also stretched his current hitting tear with a 1-for-3 outing, doubling in the fourth inning to match Mathews with a hit in 14-consecutive games.
Senior Barrett Shaft was the only other Catamount to post a multiple-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and belting his second home run of the season - a solo shot to right field that tied the game at one in the bottom of the first inning.
The Catamounts (12-15) pulled out to their first lead following Shaft's homer as Mathews singled through the left side to score senior Blake Murphy, who was aboard after drawing his team-leading 24th walk of the season. WCU led 2-1 after one inning of play.
UNCA again scratched the scoreboard in the top of the third, plating two runs on a double down the left field line to pull in front by a run, 3-2. However, the Catamounts again clawed back in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single to right center by sophomore Dylan de Graaf with Murphy scoring on a wild pitch to give Western a 4-3 advantage.
Western nearly broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating three runs on two hits. Mathews singled and was advanced to second two batters later as junior Mitchell Hatley, who replaced senior Jason Haynes in the lineup in the fourth, walking to put two aboard. Sophomore Tyler Kirpatrick walked to load the bases ahead of sophomore Adam Baker, who delivered his first base hit of the season, a two-RBI single to left to drive in Mathews and Hatley. Two batters later, Kirkpatrick came home on a wild pitch to give Western a 7-3 advantage.
But the Bulldogs would not back down. UNC Asheville (12-19) pushed four runs across in the sixth inning, including an RBI triple by Beau Zinman and a three-run home run by Kevin Mattison, to knot the game, 7-7, after five and a half.
Western, which has won three-straight and six of its last seven games, was able to score one in the bottom of the sixth, adding two insurance runs in the eighth off a two-RBI single through the left side by Kirkpatrick to hold on for the 10-7 victory.
Freshman Matt Benedict made his second career start, tossing a season-high five innings and limiting the Bulldogs to three runs - only two of which were earned - while scattering six hits. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native pitched around four walks with three strikeouts, but received a no decision. Junior Garrett Ozar (4-2) settled down after a rough first inning where he allowed four runs on three hits to earn the victory. The transfer from Oak Park, Calif., held the Bulldogs to just one base hit the remaining three innings of his 4.0 pitched, walking just one and striking out four.
For UNCA, relief pitcher Matt Dalby came on in relief in the sixth inning, allowing the one earned run that put Western ahead, 8-7, to suffer his first loss of the season. Starter Ben Buchanan worked four innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts as the Bulldogs used five different hurlers in the loss - their sixth-straight.
Bulldog shortstop Kevin Wiedenbacher extended his current hitting streak to 26-straight games with an infield single in the first, finishing 1-for-5 on the evening. Mattison led UNCA with a 3-for-5 outing, including a double, a home run and three runs scored.
Western Carolina returns to Southern Conference action this weekend as it welcomes the Davidson Wildcats to Childress Field / Hennon Stadium for a three-game set. Game one is set for Friday at 7:00 pm, with Saturday's game scheduled for 6:00 pm and the series finale on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON 5, WINTHROP 4 (8 inn.)
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. -- Michael Harrington scored on a throwing error with two outs in the eighth inning leading the College of Charleston to a 5-4 win over Winthrop in a game shortened to eight innings because of rain at Patriots Point Stadium on Wednesday.
The Cougars, who open a three-game Southern Conference series at Appalachian State on Friday at 7:00, improved to 19-9. Winthrop fell to 11-17. The game was called after a 53-minute rain delay.
With the game tied at 4-all entering the bottom of the eighth, Harrington led off with a double to left center and moved to third on Joey Bergman's fly out to right. After Brandon Sizemore struck out and Clay McCord walked, McCord fell down attempting to steal second and Winthrop's cather John Murrian's throw sailed into centerfield allowing Harrington to score the winning run.
The Eagles had built a 4-1 fifth inning lead thanks to Eddie Tisdale's two-run homer down the right field line with two outs that capped their three-run outburst. Charleston got a an RBI double from Sizemore, a run-producing grounder from Matt Mansilla and a two-out RBI double from pinch hitter Cole Rakar in the sixth inning that tied the game at 4-4.
Jesse Simpson (4-2) picked up the win in relief pitching a scoreless eighth inning with a strikeout. Josh McDonald (1-4) allowed an unearned run in the eighth and suffered the loss.
ARIZONA STATE 12, WOFFORD 4
TEMPE, ARIZ. ? The Wofford College baseball team was defeated 12-4 by top-ranked Arizona State University on Wednesday night at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Terriers tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning, but could only add two more runs in the time-limited contest.
Wofford is now 17-11 on the season and 3-3 in the Southern Conference, while Arizona State is 27-1 overall and 3-0 in the Pac-10. The Terriers were led by Kyle Behrendt with a two-run homer and an RBI single. Arizona State was led by Ike Davis with two home runs and five RBIs. The game was called after seven innings for time due to both teams needing to travel.
The Sun Devils opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer over the right fence by Petey Paramore for a 2-0 lead. Wofford was able to tie the game in the top of the third when Jake Williams reached first after being hit by a pitch and then Kyle Behrendt hit a long ball over the right fence for a 2-2 game.
In the bottom of the third, Brett Wallace hit a double, which was followed by a double by Petey Paramore to score Wallace. Ike Davis then hit a two-run homer to right field for a 5-2 lead.
With the bases loaded and one out for the Sun Devils in the bottom of the fourth, Brett Wallace drove in one run on a sacrifice fly. Petey Paramoure drove in another run to take a 7-2 lead.
For Wofford in the top of the fifth, Sterling Dye reached on a double off the wall in left center. Kyle Behrendt added a single up the middle to score Dye and make it a 7-3 game. A walk by Michael Gilmartin and a single by Shane Kirkley loaded the bases, but the Terriers left all three runners on at the end of the inning.
Arizona State loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Chip Hunt came in and got a strikeout to end the inning. Wofford opened the top of the sixth with Adam Kearney reaching on an error. He later advanced to second on a wild pitch and was driven home by a single from Sterling Dye to make it a 7-4 game.
The Sun Devils added three runs on a home run by Ike Davis over the right field fence to take a 10-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth. The Terriers batted in the top of the seventh and Neil Robinette reached on a triple to deep center field, but was unable to score.
Arizona State added a run on a double by Mike Jones in the bottom of the seventh and Greg Bordes scored on an out by Ike Davis for the 12-4 final score.
For Wofford, starting pitcher Jordan Mickleberry went 3.1 innings and gave up seven runs with two strikeouts. Pete Noordsy threw 1.1 innings with a strikeout and two hits allowed. Chip Hunt went 0.1 innings and allowed three runs with a strikeout. Dawson Smith threw 0.1 innings and allowed two runs. Michael Gilmartin came in to close the game and got the final two outs.
Arizona State starter Stephen Sauer went 2.1 innings with one hit, two earned runs and five strikeouts. Tommy Rafferty came in and went 2.1 innings with three strikeouts and one run allowed. Reyes Dorado played 1.1 innings with one run allowed and three strikeouts. Matt Newman allowed one hit with two strikeouts in 1.0 innings of work.
Wofford left eight men on base, while Arizona State also stranded eight runners. The Sun Devils stole four bases, while the Terriers had three stolen bases. Wofford made numerous changes to the batting order for the game, with only Sterling Dye (1) and Jake Williams (9) hitting in the same spot as the game Tuesday night.
The Terriers faced a team that was ranked number one in the nation for the first time in school history. The Sun Devils are ranked first (unanimous) by all five major polls. The trip to Arizona State is the longest ever taken by the Terrier baseball team. Wofford flew back immediately following the game.
The Terriers return to Russell C. King Field on April 4 for the start of a three-game conference series against The Citadel.
NORTH CAROLINA 7, APPALACHIAN STATE 0
CARY, N.C. - Appalachian State University baseball committed a season-high three errors in the first two innings and never recovered in a 7-0 loss to No. 4 North Carolina on Wednesday evening at the USA Baseball Training Complex.
The Mountaineers came into the game hitting .371 with nearly 13 runs per game in midweek competition but were held scoreless on five hits. Appalachian falls to 15-14 on the season and 8-2 in midweek games. Both losses came via shutout, as Auburn won 17-0 earlier in the year.
David Towarnicky collected the lone extra-base hit for the Apps, a double down the left-field line. The first baseman was 1-for-3 in the game. Jason Altenhof led off the game with a single and later drew a walk for ASU, while David Rubinstein, Isaac Harrow and Rand Smith each singled for the visitors.
Appalachian miscues in the early innings set the tone for the disappointing loss, as it had runners on second and third with just one out in the top of the first but came away with no runs and followed that up by surrendering a pair of unearned runs to fall into a 3-0 hole after two stanzas.
Nick Terry pitched the opening two innings and after stranding three runners in the first inning allowed an earned run on three hits and an error. He left the game with a strikeout and a pair of walks. He took the loss for Appalachian, and moved to 3-2 on the year.
The first reliever of the game, Calvin Teague, kept the Tar Heels scoreless for a pair of innings, allowing just three hits in the appearance. Garrett Sherrill and Taylor Miller combined for the final three innings of the game, with just one unearned allowed between them with three strikeouts.
All told, ASU's staff allowed five earned runs on 13 hits and three walks with four strikeouts. UNC (23-5) pitchers struck out 14 batters and allowed just three walks in front of the crowd of 873.
Just a year removed from snapping a 40-game losing streak versus Atlantic Coast Conference competition, the Mountaineers posted a 3-3 record against ACC foes this season.
The Mountaineers return home for a weekend series against College of Charleston. Friday's first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
KENNESAW STATE 7, GEORGIA SOUTHERN 6
STATESBORO, GA. ? A.J. Wirnsberger (Tuscaloosa, AL/Paul Bear Bryant) homered twice, including a solo shot to start the bottom of the ninth, but Georgia Southern fell short in a 7-6 loss to Kennesaw State Wednesday afternoon (April 2) at J.I. Clements Stadium. The Eagles dropped to 16-11 overall.
Kennesaw put its leadoff runner aboard to start the game then Bucky Smith followed with his first home run of the season, matching his season RBI total. KSU did the same thing in the third, this time Jay Morrow hit the 2-run homer for a 4-0 advantage.
Phillip Porter (Marietta/Sprayberry) hit a leadoff double in the third. He advanced to third on Chris Shehan’s (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) single then scored on a RBI groundout from Griffin Benedict (Dunwoody/St. Pius).
Georgia Southern put the first two runners of the fourth on when Kyle Blackburn (Marietta/Walton) singled and David Richardson (Dahlonega/Lumpkin County) walked. Two batters later Jeremy Beckham (Griffin/Griffin) singled to load the bases. Ty Wright (Montrose/West Laurens) hit a sacrifice fly for the second run of the game.
Shehan hammered his team-leading 10th home run in the fifth, a solo shot to start the frame and cut the deficit to 6-3.
Ric Bishop hit a solo homer in the seventh. The Eagles got two runs back in their half when Wirnsberger hit a shot into the trees in left field. His home run also extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
GS missed an opportunity in the eighth. Brian Pierce (Roswell/Roswell) and the Eagles thought he hit a leadoff double, a shot down the left field line that looked to have brought up chalk, but was ruled a foul ball by the third base umpire. He grounded out, but then Beckham reached on an error for the second time. Wright singled then two batters later Shehan walked to load the bases. Michael Bohana got Benedict on a flyball to end the threat.
The Owls (12-16) loaded the bases in the ninth with one out. Charlie Strohecker (Alpharetta/Milton) got a ground ball from Josh Whitaker. It took a high hop to Wirnsberger back behind third base, but the sophomore rifled a shot home just in time for the force out. Strohecker got another force out to keep the Owls in check.
Jeremiah Parker (Carrollton/Carrollton) followed Wirnsberger’s home run with a single to left. However, Bohana picked up a pair of strikeouts and force out to end the game.
Wirnsberger finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. It was the second time in his career he hit two homers in a game. He now ranks second on the team with nine round-trippers.
Shehan and Benedict added three hits apiece as the 3-4-5 hitters combined for eight of the team’s 14 hits. Justin Davis (Pulaski/Metter) suffered the loss, falling to 1-3. He allowed two runs on five hits in 1.1 innings.
Burt Barto (Columbus/Columbus) gave up one run on one hit in three innings. He struck out three. Tony Chisman (Conyers/Salem) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings. Trent Franzago (Byron/Peach County), making his first appearance since opening day, gave up one earned run in an inning of work.
Ryan Rodebaugh (1-0) earned the win allowing two runs on five hits in three innings. Bohana picked up his fourth save. Bishop had three hits to lead the Owls.
The Eagles begin a three-game Southern Conference series at Elon on Friday night (April 4), first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
NORTH CAROLINA STATE 12, ELON 0
RALEIGH, N.C. ? The North Carolina State Wolfpack pounded out 16 hits, including four home runs, to hand the Elon Phoenix a 12-0 loss in non-league baseball action from Doak Field in Raleigh on Wednesday night. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Phoenix who dropped to 22-7 on the year. NC State upped its mark to 17-9 thanks in part to a 4-for-4, three-run, four-RBI night from Ryan Pond.
With two outs in the bottom of the first, Matt Payne and Marcus Jones hit back-to-back singles. Pond followed by lining a double to the gap in left-center to score both Payne and Jones, putting the Wolfpack on top 2-0.
Chris Schaeffer singled to lead off the State half of the second and moved to second when Drew Martin lined a single to right. Tommy Foschi sacrificed both runners up a bag. A balk brought in Schaeffer and advanced Martin to third. The lead grew to 5-0 when Devon Cartwright homered down the leftfield line. The shot was the third of the year for Cartwright.
Pond and Kyle Prewitt reached to start the third with a single and double, respectively. With one out, Martin lifted a sac fly to right to score Pond with the sixth Wolfpack run.
Pond got things going again in the fifth with a single off the third base bag. Prewitt’s single to right put runners on the corners before a passed ball let Pond score and Prewitt go to second. With one away, Martin blasted his second home run of the year, a two-run shot over the wall in left that pushed the State lead to 9-0.
Once again, Pond delivered for NC State as he belted his fifth homer of the season with a man aboard in the bottom of the sixth.
Jeremy Synan hit a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the seventh to tack another run onto the Wolfpack tally.
Donny Jobe and Harry Austin each had one hit for Elon. With the hits, Jobe extended his hitting streak to six games while Austin’s streak reached a career-best seven games.
Martin added a 3-for-3, two-run, three-RBI outing for the Wolfpack.
Cory Harrilchak (2-2) took the loss after being tagged for five runs on six hits and two walks in 1.1 innings of work.
Sam Brown (1-1) picked up the win by throwing 5.0 scoreless innings. He allowed just four hits and struck out two.
The Phoenix gets back to Southern Conference play when it hosts Georgia Southern in the first game of a three-game series at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Latham Park.
SOUTH CAROLINA 9, DAVIDSON 2
COLUMBIA, S.C. ? Matt Webb, Tommy Piacenza and Matt Ray each had a hit but Davidson could only score two runs in a 9-2 setback at No. 6 South Carolina Wednesday night.
South Carolina (20-7) erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning on the strength of two Reese Havens doubles and a three-run home run from James Darnell. Two Davidson errors also helped to extend the inning.
The Wildcats (8-15) got one back in the third as Ray led off with a single, Zach Kayne drew a two-out walk and Webb followed with an infield single.
Chase FitzPatrick walked with the bases loaded to make the score 7-1,and Davidson made the margin 7-2 in the sixth when Ray was plunked with the bases loaded. The Gamecocks added two in the eighth inning for the final margin.
The ?Cats got a strong outing from relief pitcher Brant West, who threw 4.2 scoreless innings and scattered five hits. Matt Sliwiak kept the ?Cats within striking distance by throwing 1.2 scoreless innings and striking out two batters.
Davidson returns to action with a three-game SoCon series at Western Carolina, beginning Friday.
MERCER 9, THE CITADEL 5
MACON, GA. ? The Citadel exploded for a four-run fifth inning but the host Bears would not be outdone, putting together a five-run rally over the final two innings as The Citadel lost at Mercer Wednesday afternoon, 9-5.
The Citadel (16-12) dropped consecutive games for the third time this season as the Bulldogs scored five runs on nine hits and committed three errors. Mercer (12-17) scored nine runs on 13 hits while committing one error. Five of Mercer’s runs were scored in the seventh and eighth innings.
Chris Boyce (0-1) was credited with the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in 1.1 innings of relief pitching. Timmy Martin received a no-decision after throwing 4.0 innings and allowing three runs on five hits. Brett Bull and Boyce combined to allow Mercer’s final six runs over the team’s last three at bats.
Dan April (1-1) was credited with the win for Mercer after 2.0 innings of work. Bears starter David Harden allowed four of The Citadel’s five runs in the no-decision and struck out four.
Down 3-0, Matt Arnold led off the big fifth inning for the Bulldogs with a single up the middle. A single by Sid Fallaw to left center put Arnold on third. After Kyle Jordan flied out to left field, Brad Felder singled to left to send Arnold across the plate and Fallaw to second. Fallaw scored on the next at bat as Chris Swauger recorded his 157th career RBI with a single to right center. That places Swauger tied for eighth in school history in career RBI.
A single by Bryan Altman scored Felder and a fielder’s choice by Sonny Meade scored
Swauger as Altman was thrown out at second. Chris McGuiness grounded out to short to end the inning.
The Bulldogs lone run in the sixth came off a fielding error by Mercer’s Steve Karwatt, giving The Citadel a 5-3 advantage.
Mercer scored a run in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth to take the 9-5 advantage and relief pitcher Josh Lowey forced the Bulldogs to go three up, three down in the ninth to seal the Bears’ victory.
The Citadel returns to Southern Conference play this weekend as the Bulldogs continue their five-game road trip with a weekend series at Wofford. First pitch for Friday, April 4 is slated for 7 p.m.
NORTH CAROLINA A&T 10, UNC GREENSBORO 7
GREENSBORO, NC ? The North Carolina A&T Aggies tabbed their fourth victory over UNC Greensboro in 17 years with a 10-7 win over the Spartans on Wednesday evening at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, NC.
UNCG took an early-game lead with an opening pitch solo by Tim Carrier and a two-run double by Ricky Orton. The Aggies were able to chip away at the lead until knotting the game at 4-4 with four hits, including a two-run homer by Jeremy Jones in the third.
N.C. A&T then came out with a six-run rally in the sixth inning to take a 10-4 lead. The Spartans kept the Aggie lineup silent through the remainder of the game, but after scoring just three runs, N.C. A&T came away with the 10-7 victory.
UNCG’s Tim Carrier took the first pitch of the game and drove it over the right field fence to put the Spartans up with an early 1-0 led. First baseman Ricky Orton upped the margin by two more with a centerfield double to score shortstop Matt Gaski and leftfielder Greg Feltes.
Orton came through again in the second inning with a single through the left side to plate Gaski and give the Spartans the 4-0 lead.
The Aggies cut the margin in half in inning three as Jeremy Jones stroked a two-run shot onto the grassy knoll behind the left field wall. N.C. A&T knotted the game at 4-4 with single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, John Primus laid a bunt which hugged the left field line. As UNCG waited for the ball to roll foul, Neil Rosser was able to advance to second while Joe McIntrye crossed the plate.
In the following inning, McIntrye grounded out to second base yet nabbed the RBI as CJ Beatty crossed the plate.
N.C. A&T took the lead with a six-run tally in the top of the sixth inning. The Aggie rally was jumpstarted by a two-run single up the middle by Beatty. Jones was plated in the next at-bat and then McIntyre brought in the final three with a home run over the left field wall and the inning’s final run.
The Spartans cut the lead to 10-6 in the bottom of the seventh. Orton brought Gaski in with a single to the right center gap. UNCG’s second run came by gift from the Aggie mound as third baseman Ray Quinones received a bases loaded walk to plate Feltes.
UNCG notched one more in the eighth, but a three up, three down ninth inning left them scoreless as N.C. A&T came away with the 10-7 victory.
UNCG’s Ricky Orton was 3-for-5 with four RBI. Tim Carrier was 1-for5 with two runs and the first pitch solo. The Aggies’ CJ Beatty was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.
Marquis Frink (1-2) grabbed the win for the Aggies after over six innings of work with nine strikeouts. Matt Bjorkstrom (1-1) took his first loss of the season after 1.2 innings on the rubber.
The Spartans will remain in Greensboro as they take on Southern Conference foes, the Furman Paladins, for a three-day, three-game series at the UNCG Baseball Stadium staring Friday, April 7. The first game of the series is slated to begin at 7pm, with Saturday’s game starting at 2pm and Sunday’s game getting underway at 1pm.
