SPARTANBURG, S.C. ?The Southern Conference’s track & field coaches selected Demetrise Anthony of Georgia Southern as the women’s track & field Athlete of the Week.

 

Anthony, a sophomore from Manchester, Ga., placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 39-8 feet at the Davidson Irwin Belk Invitational.  Anthony won the long jump with a jump of 19-5.75 feet, which was a personal best and ranks as the third best in the Southern Conference.

 

Anthony placed second in the 100-meters with a time of 12.02 and ran a leg of the first place 4x100-meter relay team that set a new meet record at 46.38.

 

Other Top Performers:

Tara Tounsen of Western Carolina won the javelin with a toss of 127-7 feet at the Catamount Classic.  Tounsen leads the Southern Conference in the javelin and is ranked sixth in hammer.

 

Brenna Burns, a senior from Davidson, won the 3,000-meters at the Irwin Belk Invitational with a time of 10:14.47.

 

Kala Robertson, a junior from Dobson, N.C., won the 800-meters at the Irwin Belk Invitational with a time 2:15.32.  Her time was a personal best and ranks her third in the Southern Conference and eighth all-time at Appalachian State.

 

Kerrie Savery of Western Carolina won the 800-meters at the Catamount Classic with a time of 2:10.54.  Savery’s time was a personal best and a new track record.  Savery leads the Southern Conference in the 800-meters and 1,500-meters.

 

Raquel Ramseur of Western Carolina won the 200-meters at the Catamount Classic with a NCAA Regional qualifying time of 23.77.  Ramseur also anchored the winning 4x100-meter relay team.  Their time of 45.56 was a NCAA Regional qualifying time as well as a track record.  Ramseur is ranked first in the Southern Conference in the 200-meter, 400-meters and the relays.
