SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Appalachian State catcher Katie Boyd has been named the Southern Conference softball Player of the Week while Chattanooga’s Kaitlin Holloway has been named the league’s Pitcher of the Week for April 14.

 

Boyd batted .643 (9-for-14) last week with five extra-base hits and seven RBI as the Mountaineers took two of three games from Furman in a weekend SoCon series. The freshman backstop from Walkertown, N.C., tied the ASU single-season home run record against East Tennessee State on Wednesday and set a new mark (8) against Furman on Saturday afternoon. In all, she tallied a pair of home runs, two doubles and a triple in four games. Boyd currently leads the league in batting average (.444), slugging percentage (.833) and on-base percentage (.541).

 

Holloway tossed 16.1 innings in four relief appearances last week, allowing only two earned runs and tallying a 0.86 ERA. The Chickamauga, Ga., native allowed just one extra-base hit on the week while earning three victories and holding her opponents to a .175 average at the plate. Holloway struck out 10 batters and walked just three as the Lady Mocs went 4-1 on the week, including taking two of three from Elon to remain atop the Southern Conference standings. Against SoCon teams, Holloway is 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA.

 

Other top hitters included College of Charleston’s Shannon Howard, Chattanooga’s Lyndsey Stiles, Elon’s Jackie Gonzalez, Georgia Southern’s Jenny Side, UNC Greensboro’s Lyndsay Mouse and Western Carolina’s Stephanie Beatty. Among the top pitchers this week were College of Charleston’s Shannon Howard, Elon’s Pam DelPizzo, Georgia Southern’s Melissa Laliberte, UNC Greensboro’s Hannah Angel and Western Carolina’s Lauren Ross.
