Elon 5, East Carolina 2

ELON, N.C. ? Damon Gooch, Oscar Podlewski, Alberto Rojas and Chase Helpingstine all collected singles wins to propel Elon to a 5-2 non-conference men’s tennis triumph over East Carolina Wednesday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Gooch (over Jaroslav Horvath 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1), Podlewski (over Henrique Viana 7-6 (6), 6-2 at No. 2), Rojas (over Aleksey Kochetov 7-6 (5), 6-4 at No. 4) and Helpingstine (over Bryan Oakley 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6) won for the Phoenix (14-8) while Stephen Whitwell (over Mason Schermerhorn 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3) and Henrik Skalmerud (over Philip Nemec 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 5) emerged victorious for the Pirates (13-10).

Elon opened the contest by sweeping its way through the doubles competition as Gooch and Nemec downed Horvath and Viana 8-2 at No. 1, Schermerhorn and Podlewski ousted Skalmerud and Kochetov 8-4 at No. 2 and Helpingstine and Rojas knocked off Whitwell and Oakley 8-4 at No. 3.

The Phoenix conclude the regular season by hosting High Point at 2 p.m. Friday at the JPTC. East Carolina wraps up its regular season with a visit to UNC Wilmington at 1 p.m. Saturday.

College of Charleston 3, Charleston Southern 4

Charleston, S.C. -- The Charleston Southern men's tennis team edged the College of Charleston 4-3 in college tennis action at the CSU Tennis Courts on Wedensday.

The Cougars close out the regular season with a 7-16 record.  CSU improved to 12-8.  The Cougars compete in the SoCon Championships April 17-20 in Charleston.

Charleston got singles wins from Omer Abramovich who downed Steve Dean 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 play.  Mickael Boyer earned a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Guy David at No. 2 and Joe Nicolazzi defeated Chris Peek 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
