UNCG's Guerra Named Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that UNC Greensboro’s Alejandra Guerra was named women’s tennis player of the week.

 

Guerra, a junior from Tampico, Mexico, went 3-0 last week at No.1 singles with wins against Appalachian State’s Anja Gugger, 6-0,6-0 and Chattanooga’s Lindsay Ballard, 6-2, 6-0.  She defeated Furman’s Laura Gioia, who was ranked 86th in the nation, 6-2, 6-4.

 

In doubles action, Guerra and Arielle VonStrolley were undefeated this week with wins over conference foes Monica Toms and Mallory Cook of Appalachian State, 8-0, Furman’s Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic, 8-4, and Chattanooga’s Lindsay Ballard and Grace Robinette, 8-2.  The pair is 4-1 in conference matches and 9-4 overall.

 

Other top performers for this week included: College of Charleston’s Anna Lee Evans, Elon’s Anna Milian, Furman’s Monica Arguello, Georgia Southern’s Ali Beavers and Wofford’s Cayley Wetzig.
