Spartanburg, S.C. ? The Southern Conference wrestling coaches have selected the all-conference team for the 2008 season as well as the Wrestler of the Year.  Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own wrestlers.

Chattanooga landed five wrestlers on the all-conference team, including Co-Wrestler of the Year Lloyd Rogers.  The sophomore went 16-1 in dual meets this season and posted a 5-0 record in league action.  Rogers finished the regular season with an overall record of 24-3 and is currently ranked No. 14 in the InterMat wrestling poll. 

The Mountaineers representative on the all-conference team is the Co-Wrestler of the Year Scott Ervin.  Ervin is ranked 13 by Intermat wrestling polls at 149-pounds.  Ervin’s overall record is 33-5 and he is 5-0 in conference action with four pins and one technical fall.

Four other Mocs joined Rogers on the all-conference team after leading Chattanooga to a No. 18 ranking in the InterMat polls and finishing with a 11-6 dual meet record this season.  Javier Maldonado earned his third all-conference selection at 125- pounds along with Cody Cleveland at 141- pounds and Seth Garvin  at 157- pounds.  Josh Edmondson 184-pounds earned his second all-conference award to round out the Mocs  on the  list.

UNC Greensboro landed four wrestlers on the all-conference team.  Daren Burns earned his second all-conference honors at 197-pounds with a 30-6 overall record and 5-0 in conference action.  Burns is joined by first time all-conference Jeff Hedges 133-pounds, Byron Sigmon 165-pounds and Ryan Hsu at heavyweight.

All six SoCon teams head to Chattanooga this weekend to compete in Mat Jam 2008.  Chattanooga currently leads the team rankings with a 5-0 record in SoCon dual meets with Appalachian State second and UNC Greensboro third.  The Citadel is in fourth place with VMI is fifth and Davidson finished sixth.  The SoCon championships will be held on the campus of Chattanooga on Saturday, March 8.  Competition is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
