The Citadel?s Wells Earns Hoops Honors

The Citadel freshman guard Cameron Wells earned mid-major honorable mention all-freshman honors by CollegeHoops.net after his impressive performance during the 2007-08 season.

Wells, who was also named Freshman of the Year by both the Southern Conference media and coaches, led all freshmen in the conference in scoring, assists and steals. He finished the season averaging 14.4 points and 5.1 boards a game, totaling 115 assists and 49 steals.

Wells’ honor also marked the only time in the program’s history that any Bulldog received Freshman of the Year by either the media or the coaches. Also named to the SoCon all-freshman team, Wells finished third in the SoCon in minutes played averaging 35.0 a game. He broke the school’s freshman record for the most points in a season and ended the regular season with a season-high 28 points bringing his total to 422 points (432 after the tournament). The only Bulldog to previously break 400 points during his freshman season was Dick Wherry in 1957.
