Kirchmayr Leads Bryan Park Collegiate

 

Greensboro, N.C. - College of Charleston's Steffi Kirchmayr fired a tournament-low 69 to sit atop the leaderboard after the first round as the Cougar women's golf team shot a 309 for 13th at the Bryan Park Collegiate being held Mar. 28-30 at the Bryan Park Players Course in Greensboro, N.C.  #1-ranked Duke shot a 294 in today's round to lead the tournament by four strokes over #5 Florida.

 

Of the 18 teams in the tournament, 12 are in the top 40 in the nation and of those four are in the top 10.

 

Following Kirchmayr and her 69 for the Cougars is Fiona Puyo, who is tied for 39th with a 77.  Emily Rapp is tied for 42nd with a 78 and tied for 86th is Joanna Klatten with her 85.  Rounding out the Cougar effort is Kati Scholten, who is 90th with an 87 on the day.

 

Charleston continues in second round action at 10:00 a.m. Saturday.  The Cougars tee of from holes 13, 14 and 15 in a shotgun format.

Furman Grabs Share Of Fourth After Opening Round Of Bryan National Collegiate

 

Browns Summit, N.C. -- The Furman women’s golf team fired a first round 301 to grab a share of fourth place Friday at the Bryan National Collegiate at the par 72 Bryan Park Players Course in Browns Summit, N.C.

 

Southern Conference Player-of-the-Week Stefanie Kenoyer led the Paladins earning a share of seventh place with an opening round 73.  Jaclyn Hilea is in 11th place after a two-over-par 74 and Blair Lamb is tied for 23rd at three-over in a field that includes 13 of the top 30 ranked teams in the nation.

 

College of Charleston’s Steffi Kirchmayr shot three-under to hold a one-stroke lead of a group of three players at two-under-par.  Top-ranked Duke shot 294 to open a four-stroke advantage on second place Florida State and six-stroke edge on third place North Carolina.  Auburn is tied with the Paladins for fourth at 13-over-par.

Duke leads, UNCG 15th after opening round at Bryan National

 

BROWN SUMMIT, NC ? UNC Greensboro is tied for 15th among 18 teams after the opening round of the 2008 Bryan National at Bryan Park Golf Course’s Players Course.

 

Top-ranked Duke leads the team standings with a 294, four shots better than Florida and six shots better than North Carolina. UNCG shot an opening round 314 to earn its 15th place standing in a field that features eight teams ranked in this week’s Golfweek Top 25.

 

Ashley Mylton led the Spartans with a 76 in Friday’s opening round. She sits seven shots off the pace. College of Charleston’s Steffi Kirchmayr was the story of the opening round, carding a 69 to take the lead after 18 holes. Kirchmayr started out on the seventh hole was even after she finished the 18th hole with just two birdies and two bogeys. However, she birdied the second, third and fourth holes to gain the lead and finish the day at three-under.

 

Kirchmayr leads the trio of Duke’s Amanda Blumerherst, Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis and North Carolina State’s Lauren Doughtie by one shot. Only five golfers shot under par on Friday. Blumerherst, one of the top players in the nation, bounced back from a bumpy morning to catch fire in her last nine holes. Starting out on No. 10, Blumerherst played the back side of the course in 39. However, she shot 31 on the front side to finish with a 70 and just one shot off the lead.

 

Saturday’s second round gets underway at 10 am with a shotgun start.
