After playing 20 conference games, taking on top-ranked teams such as Duke and North Carolina...and winning the Southern Conference Basketball Championship, the Davidson Wildcats notched another spot in league history with a trip to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Sweet Sixteen.

And they're not done yet.

Davidson will take on Wisconsin on Friday, March 28 at 7:10 p.m. from Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. The Wildcats advanced with a first-round win over Gonzaga and by topping Georgetown in the second round. Davidson is riding the longest win streak in the nation at 24 straight.

The Wildcats are no stranger to the Sweet Sixteen; but none of the current players were even a glimpse in the Davidson program the last time it happened. The first team to advance to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen was West Virginia in 1957, back when the tournament ranged from 22 to 25 teams in the bracket.  The Mountaineers would advance again in 1960 and 1963. Davidson made its first appearance in 1966 and would repeat in 1968 and 1969. Furman advanced to the final 16 in 1974 and former SoCon member VMI advanced in 1976 and 1977. Chattanooga was the last SoCon team in the Sweet Sixteen, taking on Providence in 1997.

NOTE: The numbers used only include teams who advanced to the round of 16 and does not include teams prior to 1953 when only 16 teams were included.
