GSU’s Shehan, Wofford’s Hunt Earn SoCon Honors

Georgia Southern outfielder Chris Shehan repeated as Southern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 24. In four games, the junior was 11-for-19 (.579) and scored seven runs while driving in 11. He posted an .842 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage. He belted his second career grand slam and scored six runs against Western Carolina. In the second game against the Catamounts, the Strasburg, Pa. native drove in a career-high seven runs. Other notable performances were turned in by: College of Charleston’s Jeremie Tice, Wofford’s Jake Williams, UNC Greensboro’s Ricky Orton, The Citadel’s Chris Swauger, Elon’s Bennett Davis, Appalachian State’s Jason Rook, Davidson’s Danny Weiss and Western Carolina’s Brent Greer.

Wofford’s Chip Hunt was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 24. The right-hander made two appearances, pitching 5.1 innings yielding five hits and a walk while striking out six. The Greenville, S.C. native held Rider scoreless over 2.0 innings and Elon scoreless over 3.1 innings in a pair of Terrier victories. Other notable performances were turned in by: Georgia Southern’s Blake Nation, UNC Greensboro’s Matt Bjorkstrom, The Citadel’s Wes Wrenn, Elon’s Steven Hensley, Davidson’s Thomas Middour and Western Carolina’s Chris Masters.
