Furman-USC Upstate Reschedule Doubleheader
Greenville, S.C. -- Furman has rescheduled Wednesday’s softball doubleheader against USC Upstate for April 23, at 3 p.m. due to the threat of rain and thunderstorms in the Greenville area this afternoon, it was announced by Paladin head coach Dana Jenkins.
Furman, 10-11 on the season, will return to action Friday when it opens Southern Conference play hosting Georgia Southern in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Pepsi Stadium. The Paladins and Eagles, who have faced each other in the SoCon Finals in each of the past two years, will conclude their three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday.
Furman is coming off of a 4-2 week that included a 3-1 performance at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational. Paladin centerfielder Meredith Mielke garnered SoCon Player-of-the-Week honors after posting two home runs and six RBI in Furman’s victory over Gardner-Webb. Sophomore Lana Mackey earned SoCon Pitcher-of-the-Week honors compiling a 1.75 ERA and notching three victories in the circle.
Rain Forces Cancellation of Chattanooga Showdown
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? Heavy rains passing through the Chattanooga area have forced the cancellation of the 2008 Chattanooga Showcase featuring Kent State and Alabama. The games will not be rescheduled.
With the rain out, the Lady Mocs lose the opportunity to face the No. 2 team in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide. The two teams were scheduled to meet in the 6 p.m. contest while Kent State and UTC were to play at 4 p.m. The 2 p.m. game between the Golden Flashes and Alabama had already been cancelled earlier in the day.
The "Gold Rush" T-shirt promotion scheduled for today's games will be rescheduled for a later date. When it is, the first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free Gold Rush T-shirt.
Chattanooga will return to the field under clear skies this Friday, March 21 when they open Southern Conference play by hosting the UNC Greensboro Spartans in a double-header. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. for Game 1 of the double-header while the third game of the set will be a 12:00 p.m. start on Saturday.
