Charleston, S.C. ? Justin Fojo, a freshman with the College of Charleston men’s soccer team, has been invited to participate with the Trinidad and Tobago National Senior Team as they host El Salvador in a friendly match this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya.
Fojo, who holds a 3.9 GPA at CofC, has been training with the team since Friday. He was noticed back in 2006 after attending a camp hosted by the team in North Carolina.
“It's been a good experience because it's all new to me and I'm just taking it in with an open mind,” said Fojo. “I've been listening closely to what the coaches are saying and trying to give it my all. I wasn't expecting this at all but I'm taking on the challenge and I'll give it my very best. It's a next step up so it means I have to keep focused, determined and disciplined all the time.”
Fojo was named to the 2007 College Soccer News Freshman All-America third team and was also honored with a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-South Region teams. He was also named to the Southern Conference All-Conference team this past year.
"My short term ambitions are to definitely press the coaches for future selections. I want to improve my game as much as I can and learn as much at age 19. I think this call up definitely is an incentive for young players to follow by example and to know that it's realistic and to see that they can make it.”
Fojo (5-9, 160) played and started 14 games for the Cougars this fall and added 11 shots on goal and one assist. Fojo, who prepped at Lake Mary (Fla.) High School and was also a member of the La Foucade Coaching School, helped the Cougars to a 13-4-1 record this past season.
