PLEASANT, S.C. - Strong singles action and the doubles point lead the Georgia Southern men's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over the College of Charleston Cougars Saturday afternoon at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point. The Eagles improved to an overall record of 6-6, posting a 2-2 conference tally. The Cougars fell to 5-8 and 0-2 in conference action.
The Eagles were victorious at the two and three doubles seeds to jump off to a 1-0 advantage over the Cougars. The duos of Philip Prins and Gregory Bekkers and Matthew Sands and Joris De Weerdt propelled the Eagles to claim the team point.
Georgia Southern quickly clinched the match with four singles victories at the two, three, five and six seeds. Joris De Weerdt, Borja Malet, and Mark Paetz each claimed their matches over the Cougars in straight sets. Matthew Sands took his match in a third set tiebreak.
The Eagles travel to California next for two matches. Georgia Southern will face the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA March 17. Doubles action is set to begin at 11 a.m.

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. -- Joe Nicolazzi, Ross Moyer and Garrett Egan claimed singles play victories that led the College of Charleston to a 4-3 Southern Conference men's tennis win over UNC Greensboro at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point on Sunday.
Charleston, which plays host to Drake (12-0) on Monday at 5:30, improved to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in league play. UNC Greensboro fell to 1-11 and 0-3.
Nicolazzi beat Martin Redelinghuys 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, Moyer downed William John 6-3, 6-2 and No. 5 and Garrett Egan defeated Taylor Befus 7-5, 6-3.
The Cougars claimed the doubles point when Omer Abramovich and Steven Myers teamed to beat Arsel Kumdereli and John 8-1 at No. 1. Boyer and Jimmy Petit won at No. 3, 8-5, over Befus and Redelinghuys.

Charleston, SC ? The Citadel Bulldog tennis team defeated UNC Charlotte, 5-2, before sweeping Boston University, 7-0, in Saturday’s double-header at the Earle Tennis Center.
The Citadel won the doubles' point, after taking the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. The Bulldogs then proceeded to win four of the six singles matches at No. 1, No.2, No.3 and No. 4 singles. Daniel Dossetor won at No. 1 (6-2, 6-2), while Yufo Sutantio won at No. 2 (6-0, 6-3), James Eason won at No. 3 (6-4, 6-2) and Alberto Diaz took No. 5 (6-2, 6-2).
In the second game of the double-header, the Bulldogs swept the doubles' matches to take the doubles point. The Citadel then continued on to sweep the singles matches as well. Dossetor won at No. 1 (6-0, 6-1), Sutantio won at No. 2 in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 1-0), Eason won at No. 3 (6-0, 6-2), Diaz won at No. 4 (6-1, 6-2), Martin King won at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1) and Frederic Petrilli finished off the Terriers winning at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1).
The Citadel improves their record to 10-7 (3-2 SoCon) on the season and will take their game on the road to face Ohio State in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Mar. 19.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ? The Furman men’s tennis team fell 4-0 to #64 Wisconsin in the final round of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on Saturday.
The Badgers won the doubles point with wins at the number one and number three spots. At the top spot, the team of Nolan Polley and Moritz Baumann topped Chris Rhyne and Andrei Chvetsov by a score of 8-4, while Felipe Bellido and Marek Michalicka defeated Bo Ladymand and Sawyer Duncan 8-6.
In singles play, Wisconsin clinched the match with three straight wins.
Jeremy Sonkin topped Chris Motes 6-2, 7-6 at number four singles, Polley defeated Daniel Knause 6-3, 6-4 at number three singles, and Baumann finished the match for the Badgers with a close 6-4, 1-6, 6-0 win over Andy Juc.
With the loss, Furman falls to 4-10 on the season. The Paladins will take the court again on March 20 with a trip to Charlotte.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Wofford men’s tennis team notched a 4-3 come-from-behind victory to defeat Southern Conference foe and nationally ranked No. 66 Elon Sunday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center.
The Phoenix began the match claiming the doubles point winning two matches out of three. The lone doubles victory for the Terriers came at the No. 3 position as the duo of sophomore Christopher Williams and freshman Alan Donald beat Chase Helpingstine and Oscar Podlewski 8-4.
In singles action, senior Andrew Stubbs captured a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Damon Gooch at the No. 1 spot.
At the No. 2 position, sophomore George Kernodle defeated Oscar Podlewski, 6-4, 6-4.
With Wofford down 3-2, junior Scott Collins outlasted Alberto Rojas in a grueling first set 18-16 tie breaker leading to a 7-6, 7-5 match victory.
The match score tied at 3-3, freshman Paul Bartholomy and Philip Nemec battled at the No. 5 position to capture the victory for their respective team. After losing the first set, Bartholomy fought back to claim a 5-7, 7-6, 6-3 victory, clinching the win for the Terriers.
“I am so proud of this team for their never quit attitude,” commented head coach Rod Ray after the match. “To lose the doubles point and come back to beat such a good team shows a train-load of heart. We knew we could win this match, but we knew it would take a great effort, because Elon has great players and they are well coached. We are going to enjoy this win for seven more hours, before getting ready for some more tough matches this week.”
Wofford will return to action Tuesday as they travel to Atlanta, Ga., to visit the nationally ranked No. 44 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for a 10 a.m. match.
