UNC Greensboro senior forward Kyle Hines and Davidson sophomore guard Stephen Curry were named to All-District recognition by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Tuesday when all nine district teams were announced.
Hines and Curry were named to the 10-player District III team, which includes Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Hines and Curry were joined by Wayne Ellington of North Carolina, James Gist of Maryland, Cliff Hammonds from Clemson, Tyler Hansbrough of North Carolina, Duke’s DeMarcus Nelson, Sean Singletary of Virginia, Kyle Singler from Duke, and Greivis Vasquez of Maryland. Hansbrough was named the District’s Player of the Year.
Hines has career records at UNCG with 2,187 points, 1,047 rebounds and 349 blocks. He is one of 97 players in college basketball history to record 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds and one of just six to also have 300 career blocks.
A 6-3 shooting guard from Charlotte, N.C., Curry led the SoCon in scoring and fifth nationally with an average of 25.1 points per game. The five-time league Player of the Week, three-time Player of the Month and conference Player of the Year also ranks among national leaders in free-throw percentage (10th/89.8), three-pointers made (1st/139) and three-pointers per game (3rd/4.3).
