LADY MOCS THIRD AFTER TWO ROUNDS AT PINEHURST CHALLENGE

 

PINEHURST, N.C. ? The Lady Mocs golf squad carded a second round 309 to go with its 311 on day one to sit in a third-place tie at the 2008 Pinehurst Challenge on Pinehurst #8 hosted by the College of Charleston.

 

Emma de Groot fired a second round 2-over 74 on day two to go with her 75 from day one for a two-round score of 149. Freshman de Groot leads three Chattanooga players in the top 14 of the tournament. Freshman Christine Wolf who was tied for the lead after the opening round, dropped to 10th place today with a 79. Sophomore Kayla Stewart carded a 1-over par 73 to move up to a tie for 14th place.

 

Sophomore Katie Taylor has a two-round score of 165 while freshman walk-on Milla Junni maintained her scoring average with an identical score of 85 on the second day.

 

East Tennessee maintains its lead with a second round 304, leading East Carolina by just four strokes. Chattanooga is tied with fellow Southern Conference school UNC Greensboro with a score of 620. Augusta State and Oregon State are tied for fifth with a two-round score of 624.

 

Charleston’s Steffi Kirchmyer and ETSU’s Laura Jansome are tied for first at four-over with de Groot and East Carolina’s Emily Lind and ETSU’s Lucy Gould one stroke behind.

 

Wolf has five birdies for the tournament and is 1-under on par 5’s while de Groot is 2-under on par 3’s and has 24 pars. The Lady Mocs have 17 birdies and 94 pars as a team.

 

The final round will tee off at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start.

 

 

UNCG tied for third after two rounds at women’s Pinehurst Challenge

 

PINEHURST, NC ? UNC Greensboro shot a team score of 307 to stay in the hunt and maintain its third place standing after two rounds at the Pinehurst Challenge, hosted by College of Charleston.

 

East Tennessee State still holds the team lead after shooting 304 on Monday. The Lady Bucs have a four-shot lead over East Carolina and a nine-shot lead over UNCG and Chattanooga.

 

UNCG’s best round of the day came from Gabby DiMora, who carded a 73 to pull into a four-way tie for sixth place. She sits three shots off the lead, which is co-held by College of Charleston’s Steffi Kirchmayr and East Tennessee State’s Laura Jansone at 148. Jansone carded an even-par 72 on Monday to pull into a tie with Kirchmayr, who held a share of the lead after the first round.

 

UNCG’s Ashley Mylton is tied for 11th after carding a 76 on Monday and sits five shots back. The Spartans’ Erica Creed is six shots back after her second consecutive 77.

 

Tuesday’s final round gets underway at 9 am with a shotgun start.

CofC Women's Golf Tied for Seventh at Pinehurst Challenge

 

Pinehurst, N.C. - Steffi Kirchmayr used a two-day total of 148 to share the lead and help pace the College o f Charleston women's golf team to a tie for seventh after 36 holes of the Pinehurst Challenge being held Mar. 9-11 at Pinehurst #8 in Pinehurst, N.C.  East Tennessee State leads the tournament with a 611 after firing a 304 in the second round.  Charleston has a 627 total after the second round to sit tied with Georgia State.

 

Kirchmayr fired a 75 in today's round and leads the Cougar effort, tied for first with ETSU's Laura Jansone.  Courtney Brink is tied for 28th with her 157 and tied for 54th is Emily Rapp with a 161.  Fiona Puyo is tied for 61st with a 162 and rounding out the Cougars is Kati Scholten, who is tied for 77th with a 165.

 

Joanna Klatten and Kelly White are competing for the Cougars as individuals.  Klatten is tied for 14th with a 154 and White is tied for 87th with a 166.

 

The third round is a shotgun format and starts at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Paladins Improve On Day Two Of UCF Challenge

 

Sorrento, Fla. -- Stefanie Kenoyer posted a one-under-par 71 and Blair Lamb carded a second round 73 as Furman (306-299=605) improved by seven strokes as a team on day two of the UCF Challenge at the 6,356-yard RedTail Golf Club on Monday afternoon.

 

Kenoyer (75-71=146) eagled the par five No. 12 hole and played the back nine at two-under-par to move into a tie for 36th place after two rounds.

Lamb (72-73=145), a junior from Flat Rock, N.C., followed an even-par opening round with a 73 on Monday to grab a share of 21st place. 

 

Duke’s Alison Whitaker (65-71=136) maintained her hold on first place with a one-under 71 and helped the Blue Devils (282-282=564) take the team lead with their second consecutive round of 282.  Purdue (289-283=572) shot 283 on Monday to move into second while Southern Cal (281-294=575) slipped to third place tie with Florida (292-283=575) following a second round 294.

 

Whitaker’s teammate Amanda Blumenhurst (69-68=137) climbed to second place with a four-under 68 while Junthima Gulyanamitta (72-66=138) posted the low round of the day to grab third place.

 

The teams in the Challenge, which include 15 of the country’s top 25 teams and 19 of the top 25 individuals, have combined to win 11 national championships.  The medalist from the 2008 UCF Challenge will receive a sponsor’s exemption into the LPGA’s Ginn Tribute Hosted By ANNIKA (May 26-June 1, 2008).
