GREENVILLE, S.C. ? The Lady Paladin tennis team evened its record to 2-2 on the season with a 7-0 victory over UNC Charlotte Friday.
Furman won the doubles point with victories in all three positions. Down 2-6, the Paladin pair of Laura Gioia and Christina Swindall rallied to defeat Ana Spivakovsky/Koran Fleming 8-6 in position one. The tandem of Lauren Osborne and Natasa Manojlovic topped Yudeshnee Pillay and Candace Cunningham 8-3 and number two doubles, and the duo of Monica Arguello and Jessica Preeg defeated Kimber Redfern and Yana Stoeva 8-2.
In singles play, the Lady Paladins swept all seven matches, with Swindall rallying to take a close match against Candace Cunningham to finish the 7-0 match with scores of 6-4, 6-4.
With the win, the Lady Paladins improve to 2-2 on the season, while UNC Charlotte falls to 0-1. Furman will return to action Sunday as they host Alabama in a match set for 11:00 a.m.

GREENVILLE, S.C. ? The women’s tennis team earned a 6-1 victory today over Alabama.
Furman swept the doubles matches, with the team of Gioia/Manojlovic defeating Bigos/Brenes 8-3 in the number one spot, the duo of Osborne/Arguello topping Tunaru/Welcher 8-4 in number two doubles, and Tomory/Preeg winning over Svensson/Emery 8-5 to clinch the doubles sweep.
The Lady Paladins proceeded to win five of the six singles matches to take the 6-1 win, highlighted by Lauren Tomory’s close win over Andrea Brenes in number five singles.
With the win, the Lady Paladins improve to 3-2 on the season. Furman will travel to in-state rival South Carolina on Wednesday.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Women’s tennis victorious at the Reeves Tennis Center Saturday morning with its first win at home of the 2008 season. The Terriers played host as they swept the Aggies of North Carolina A&T, 7-0.
Wofford gave a dominating performance in both singles and doubles action.
Senior Lauren Prickett made her 2008 debut for the Terriers at the No. 5 position. She defeated Destiny Williams 6-0, 6-0.
Also making a first appearance for the Terriers in 2008 was freshman Betsy Hauer as she beat Revorn Ferguson 6-0, 6-1.
Wofford will be at home Sunday at 2 p.m. with the men to face Mercer at the Reeves Tennis Center.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ?Wofford women’s tennis delivers another shutout at home as they defeated the Mercer University Bears, 7-0, at the Reeves Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.
In singles action freshman Haley Baird claimed her first victory of the season at the No. 5 slot over Cali Sachs 6-3, 6-0.
Freshman Sonia Anand earned her first victory as a Terrier in her debut collegiate appearance. At the No. 6 position Anand defeated Karen Bellman 6-3, 6-2.
With Wofford’s sweep in both singles and doubles action, two Terriers, juniors Merry Ellen Henry and Cayley Wetzig have yet to drop a set this season.
Next match for Wofford will be at home at the Reeves Tennis Center Thursday at 2 p.m. against neighbor USC Upstate. Thursday the Terriers will kick off the Sports Marketing department’s “Think Pink Day.” The women will join over 600 schools nationwide as they advocate the “Think Pink” initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer prevention, treatment and research while wearing pink t-shirts and shoe laces as they compete against the Spartans. Fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink to show support and have the chance to win prizes.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. --- The Chattanooga women’s tennis team won five of six singles matches Saturday, including two three-setters, to post a 6-1 victory over Western Kentucky.
The Lady Mocs, who ran their record to 2-0 on the year, swept all three doubles matches for the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead.
Chattanooga claimed all but the No. 2 position in singles. Lindsey Ballard, Bonnie Adams and Annie Green picked up straight set victories. Ballard defeated Erin Fulkerson at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0; Adams toppled Brittany Waiz at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1 and Green was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Krystal Brown at No. 5.
Freshman Grace Robinette earned a 6-0, 6-7, 6-4 victory over Carrie True at the No. 4 spot, and fellow freshman Arianna Sanjines needed a super-breaker after two sets to dispose of Leanne Caplinger at No. 6, 3-6, 6-0, 1-0.
Marija Djuran recorded the Hilltoppers’ only victory of the match. Djuran edged junior Beata Knizat at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.

Rock Hill, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's tennis team won their match at Winthrop on Saturday. Charleston's women claimed a 6-1 victory.
In women's play, Charleston won five of six matches in singles competition and claimed the doubles point after winning two of three matches. Chelsea Albertz downed Elizaveta Zaytseva, 7-6, 0-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Laura Borza won at No. 3 singles over Sara Abutovic, 6-2, 6-1, Holly Dowse defeated Lisa Wilkinson, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, Anna Lee Evans beat Larisa Bekmetova, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 and Amanda Becker claimed the No. 6 singles match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Paula Pereira.
Charleston's women return to action on Wed., Feb. 13 when they host East Carolina in a 2:00 match at Patriots Point.

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. - Strong doubles action wasn’t enough to help the Georgia Southern women’s tennis team capture its first victory of the season, as Samford (2-0) narrowly defeated the Lady Eagles 4-3 on Saturday, at the Lost Mountain Tennis Center in Powder Springs, Ga.
GSU (0-2, 0-0 SoCon) swept doubles play earning the doubles point and giving the Eagles an early advantage. Kristi Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) and Christine Caforio (Acworth, Ga.) defeated Samford’s pair of Anna Jackson and Katie Weaver 8-6 from the No. 1 singles position. The win gave Georgia Southern its first victory in doubles this season. Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) captured the first victory of her collegiate career with teammate Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) as the freshmen duo downed Taylor Morgan and Lindsay Mallory 8-7(8).
“I was really proud of the way we played,” said GSU women’s tennis coach Amy Bonner. “We fought hard to win the doubles point against a talented Samford team.”
Kegerreis and Rolle both moved to 2-0 on the season in individual play earning victories from the No.1 and No. 2 slots respectively. Kegerreis controlled Jackson winning 6-3, 7-6(1), while Rolle upended Rebecca Kirven in straight sets 6-0, 6-4.
The match was decided at No. 6 singles as Katie Weaver used three sets to help seal the victory for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Jessica Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) gave Weaver all she could handle coming up just short, falling 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
“Today’s match was really close,” said Bonner. “It was a really long competitive match. It was our second 4-3 loss, but we’re going to keep competing and keep working hard.”
Georgia Southern returns to action tomorrow, as they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to compete against Georgia State. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.

GREENSBORO, NC ? UNC Greensboro’s Alejandra Guerra won twice, including a straight set singles win over Christine Bader, but Michigan State won four of the six singles matches and the remaining two doubles matches to come away with a 5-2 win over UNCG in women’s tennis action Saturday afternoon.
Guerra, a junior from Tampico, Mexico, topped Christine Bader at No. 1 singles, 6-1 and 6-2, and teamed up with Arielle VonStrolley for an 8-6 win over Bader and Stephanie Kebler at No. 1 doubles.
UNCG’s other win of the afternoon came when Erica Zabkar topped Anna Milosavljevic at No. 5 singles in a third-set tiebreaker. Zabkar won the opener, 6-1, before Milosavljevic came back to win the second set, 6-3. However, Zabkar won the 10-point tiebreaker, 10-5, to earn the win.
UNCG (0-2) returns to action on February 16 when the Spartans face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. Start time is set for 3:30 pm.

DURHAM, N.C- Avenging their season-opening loss, the Appalachian women’s tennis team handily defeated N.C. Central on the road, winnning 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers now improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Eagles drop to 0-2.
In singles competition, junior Monica Tomas had a stellar afternoon, as she was victorious over Ashley Rogers in three sets, winning 7-5, 4-6 and 11-9. At the No. 2 spot, Tatiana Velasquez proved to be too much for Amanda Cash, handing the Mountaineers their only loss of the afternoon.
Freshman Heather Prior had a strong showing at the No. 3 position, as she beat Stephanie Lee in two sets, winning 6-1 and 6-0. Elizabeth Holland, Caroline Mauch and Mallory Cook all grabbed wins for the Apps as well, at their respective spots.
In doubles play, the duo of Heather Prior and Amanda Cash defeated Ashley Rogers and Tatiana Velasquez 8-2, at the No.1 position. At the No. 2 spot, Monica Tomas and Caroline Mauch were also successful, as they won 8-0. Rounding things out, the freshman pair of Elizabeth Holland and Laura Janke were also victorious in their match, winning 8-1.
