SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga forward Shanara Hollinquest poured in a career-high 31 points on Monday night and has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for February 26.
A native of Sylacauga, Ala., Hollinquest averaged 21.5 points per game last week, including the 31-point outburst against Georgia Southern. Against the Lady Eagles, she was 12-of-19 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the foul line as UTC wrapped up its ninth straight SoCon regular season championship.
Hollinquest shot 60 percent (6-of-10) from the floor in UTC’s win at College of Charleston on Saturday afternoon, tallying 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
On the season, the sophomore leads the SoCon in field goal percentage (60.6 percent) while also ranking in the top 10 in the league in scoring (12.0 ppg) and rebounding (6.1 rpg).
Other top performers this week were Appalachian State’s Whitney Tossie, Davidson’s Alex Thompson, Elon’s Kitara McMoore, Furman’s Melissa Liebschwager, Georgia Southern’s Ashley Melson, Western Carolina’s Lauren Powell and Wofford’s Mahagony Williams.
