SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga freshman catcher Katie Blevins has been tabbed the Southern Conference softball Player of the Week while Furman’s Lana Mackey has been named the league’s Pitcher of the Week for February 25.

Blevins powered Chattanooga to a 3-3 record on the week by belting four home runs and tallying nine RBI. The Soddy Daisy, Tenn. native homered in four of the Lady Mocs’ six games on the week while also adding a triple and a pair of singles. Blevins batted .389 on the week while slugging at a 1.167 clip. She recorded three RBI in each game of a doubleheader against Jacksonville State and went 3-for-6 with three RBI against Bowling Green and Akron over the weekend.

Mackey lead Furman to a doubleheader sweep of Presbyterian on Wednesday afternoon, earning the victory in game one and pitching three innings of scoreless, one-hit ball to record the save in game two. In the opening game of the double dip, the sophomore from Perry, Ga., fanned a career-high 13 batters while walking just one and surrendering two hits in a 1-0 Lady Paladins’ victory. For the week, Mackey gave up three hits in 10 scoreless innings while striking out 15 opposition hitters.

Other top hitters this week included College of Charleston’s Shannon Howard, Elon’s Tracey Dahlen, Georgia Southern’s Amanda Hall, UNC Greensboro’s Mary Greenway and Western Carolina’s Lauren Ross. Among the top pitchers this week were Chattanooga’s Brooke Loudermilk, Elon’s Melanie Helterbran, UNC Greensboro’s Amber Harrell and Western Carolina’s Michelle Tating.
