UNCG women finish seventh at SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? UNC Greensboro shot 302 on the final day of the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational to move up to seventh place in the final team standings on Sunday.
The Spartans were led by Annelie Weimenhog’s 73 on Sunday. Weimenhog started on No. 12 in Sunday’s shotgun groupings and carded four pars and a birdie in her first seven holes. After going one-under 34 on the front nine, Weimenhog was flirting with even-par. But she doubled No. 10 and bogeyed No. 11 to close out and finish at three-over.
Erica Creed was UNCG’s best individual finisher, carding a 74 for the second straight day to finish in a tie for 27th place. The freshman from Northwest Guilford HS had a tournament total of 224.
Tournament host Florida swept the team and individual titles. Tiffany Chudy was in the individual winner, recording her second straight even-par 70 round on Sunday to win by three shots over Louisville’s Cindy LaCrosse.
Florida won the team title rather easily, never looking back after its tournament record round of 280 on Friday. The Lady Gators finished 23 shots in front of runner-up Louisville.
UNCG returns to action on March 9 when the Spartans begin play at the Pinehurst Challenge.

CofC Women's Golf First, Men's Team Fifth at Cuthbert Cup
Kiawah Island, S.C. - Courtney Brink shot a 69 to lead the College of Charleston women's golf team to first after the first round of the Cuthbert Cup being held Feb. 24-26 at the Osprey Point and Cougar Point Golf Courses on Kiawah Island, S.C. Harrison Moore and Tim Tang are tied for 12th to pace the men's team to fifth-place, just seven strokes out of the lead.
The Charleston women's team totaled a 287 for first-place. Western Carolina is second with a 294. Rounding out the top three is Miami with a 295.
Western Carolina, Washington State and Richmond are all tied for first on the men's side with a 292 total. UNC Wilmington is fourth with a 293 and the Cougars sit fifth with a 295.
In Monday's round the women's team played at Cougar Point, while the men's team was at Osprey Point. The teams will switch courses in the second round and will then both play Osprey Point in the third round.
Cougar women's golfer Brink is tied for first along with Western Carolina's Desiree Karlsson and Miami's Christina Hirano. Steffi Kirchmayr is fourth for the Cougars with a 70, while Fiona Puyo and Emily Rapp are tied for 14th with their 74 each on the day. Joanna Klatten rounds out the Cougar effort with her 76, which is good enough for a tie at 28th. Charleston has two individuals competing with Kati Scholten tied for 53rd with an 8 and Kelly White tied for 56th with her 82.
Moore and Tang each shot 73 in 18 holes for the Cougar men's team. Soonam Kim is tied for 17th with a 74, while Dennis McCollum is tied for 26th with his 75. Scott Larkin is tied for 45th with a 78. Three Cougars are competing as individuals with Ben Dangerfield tied for fifth with a 71. Austin Parks is tied for 45th with a 78 and Ryan Blue is tied for 54th with his 81 on the day.
Both teams resume action Monday, with round two action beginning at 8:30 a.m.

UNCG tied for 11th after first round at SunTrust Lady Gator
GAINESVILLE, Fla. ? Freshman Erica Creed fired an opening round 76 to lead UNCG to an 11th place standing after the opening round at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida.
Creed recovered from a bumpy front 9 to sit in a tie for 27th place after18 holes. Four straight bogies left her at 40 at the turn, but she birdied 10 and 11 to start the back 9 and shot a 36 on the back side.
North Carolina’s Sydney Crane holds the individual lead after an opening round 66. She leads Louisville’s Cindy LaCrosse and Florida’s Tiffany Chudy by three shots.
Florida has the team lead, shooting a tournament record 280 on Friday. The Lady Gators lead Louisville by 10 shots and North Carolina by 12. UNCG is in a tie for 11th with Colorado after carding a team score of 312.
Tee times for the second round begin at 8:30 am with UNCG’s players getting underway at 9:15 am on Saturday.
