Davidson 4, The Citadel 3
CHARLESTON, S.C. ? Senior Phillip Compeau and sophomore Eric Noble helped the Wildcats open Southern Conference play with a 4-3 win over The Citadel with a 9-8 win in doubles action to help the Davidson men's tennis team earn the doubles point, which proved to be the key point in the victory on Saturday afternoon.
Davidson continued its early season hot streak, winning its fourth straight and sixth in the past seven matches to improve to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in SoCon action. The Citadel fell to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Compeau and Noble teamed with the No. 3 team of Walker Lyons and Sam Burns to earned the doubles point for the Wildcats with Lyons and Burns taking home an 8-3 win. Compeau and Noble even their season record to 4-4, while the Wildcats' No. 3 team of Lyons and Burns improved to 5-2.
The singles play was split three matches apiece with Davidson capturing wins at No. 1, 2 and 6.
Junior Scott Myers ran off his seventh straight victory in taking a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Fredric Petrilli. Myers is 7-1 on the year and has not allowed more than two games in a set to his opponent in his last four matches.
After winning a tie breaker to open his match, junior Ethan Jaffee closed out his fourth singles win of the season with a 6-3 victory in the second set over Yufo Sutanio at No. 2.
Senior Flaviu Simihaian earned the final team point for Davidson when forced to his third three-set match of the season, he responded with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 1 singles. Its the seniors second three-set win of the season.
Davidson remains on the road for a 5 p.m. match in Winston-Salem, N.C. against Wake Forest on Mar. 1. The Demon Deacons are currently ranked No. 17 nationally.

ELON, N.C. ? No. 53 Elon swept the three doubles matches and then went on to claim four of the six singles flights, defeating Campbell 5-2 for a non-league men’s tennis triumph Saturday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
In doubles action, Damon Gooch and Philip Nemec (over Davy Sum and Gabriel Delarue 8-7(4) at No. 1), Mason Schermerhorn and Alberto Rojas (over Sebastian Thesleff and Beto Mondini 8-2 at No. 2) and Oscar Podlewski and Chase Helpingstine (over Larbi Lamzouri and Loukas Wallaart 8-4 at No. 3) all prevailed as the Phoenix (5-3) captured its 27th consecutive home win.
The Fighting Camels (6-3) picked up a pair of singles wins when Sum overcame Gooch 6-4, 0-6, 10-4 at No. 1 and Mondini staved off Nemec 7-6(5), 1-6, 7-5 at No. 5. Podlewski (over Delarue 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2), Schermerhorn (over Lamzouri 6-2, 7-6(4) at No. 3), Rojas (over Thesleff 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4) and Helpingstine (over Wallaart 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6) all emerged victorious in singles action.
Elon will host Big South Conference power High Point at 2 p.m. Tuesday before opening Southern Conference play at Chattanooga at 1 p.m. Saturday.
College of Charleston 1, North Florida 6
Charleston's men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to North Florida.
Charleston's men's squad fell to 3-4 and play host to SoCon member Davidson at 1:00 on Sunday, March 2.
In the men's competition, Steven Myers beat Yuiti Lopes at No. 3 singles 7-6, 6-3. Omer Abramovich and Myers teamed to win at No. 1 doubles over Lopes and Alejandro Argumedo, 8-3.
Chattanooga 6, Austin Peay 1
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga men's tennis team recorded its seventh consecutive victory Sunday with a 6-1 win over instate rival Austin Peay State.
The match was played indoors at the Hixson Racquet Club.
The Mocs, 8-1, swept all three doubles matches and claimed five of six singles matches for the win.
In the doubles portion of the competition, Chattanooga picked up wins of 8-2, 8-2 and 8-6. Freshman Gordon Rudell made his collegiate debut, playing No. 3 doubles with fellow freshman Hasan Hamadeh.
Austin Peay's lone team point came with a victory at No. 4 singles. Leandro Tolosa-Zenklusen claimed a three-set win over Rick van de Bovenkamp, 7-5, 4-6, 10-4.
The Mocs took care of business in the remaining singles matches.
UTC senior Badr Bouabdellah was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Lucas De Brito at No. 1 singles, and fellow senior Razvan Axente defeated Leonardo Locatelli, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2.
The bottom four spots in the lineup moved up a notch as junior Peter Sauska was given a day off. Junior Pavel Vostrikov recorded a 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 win over Patrick Puertolas at No. 3, freshman Robert Diamond dispatched Jay Wilkinson, 6-1, 7-6 at No. 5, and Hamadeh defeated Francisco La Puento at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3.
The Mocs are back in action on the road Wednesday at Jacksonville State.

Furman 1, Georgia 6
ATHENS, Ga. ? The No. 3-ranked University of Georgia men’s tennis team extended its home winning streak to 37 matches Sunday with a 6-1 win over Furman.
Georgia won a hard-fought doubles point to open the match with a 1-0 lead.
The first tandem to finish was the 32nd-ranked duo of Jamie Hunt and Nate Schnugg, who dispatched Andrei Chvetsov and Chris Rhyne, 8-3. Furman then pulled even with a win in the second spot as Andy Juc and former Bulldog Chris Motes teamed up to defeat Christian Vitulli and Javier Garrapiz, 8-2.
After the two teams split the matches at the first and second spots, Josh Varela and Drake Bernstein held a 7-6 lead over Daniel Knause and Jason Basile in the third slot, then broke the Paladins’ serve to win 8-6 and grab the doubles point for Georgia.
In singles play, Bernstein defeated Sawyer Duncan 6-2, 6-0 in the no. five spot. Garrapiz then took down Motes, 6-2, 6-3, to give Georgia a 3-0 match advantage. Shortly after, Hunt came up with the match-clinching victory, winning over Knause 6-3, 6-1, at the third singles position.
With Georgia already having won the match, the remaining three singles contests all split sets and went to 10-point super-tiebreakers. Mike Kociecki put Furman on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-7(7), 10-7 victory over UGA sophomore Alex Hill.
With the win, Georgia improves to 7-1 on the season, while Furman falls to 1-5. The Paladins will take the court again on Monday, Feb. 25 as they travel to Stetson.

GREENSBORO, NC ? UNC Greensboro’s Andrey Bubnov and Taylor Befus picked up wins in singles action, but the Spartans dropped a rain-shortened 4-2 decision to Longwood on Sunday afternoon.
Bubnov picked up a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, topping Brandon Lindsley, 6-1 and 6-2. Befus’ win came at No. 5 singles in a three-set thriller. Befus lost the first set to Mani Barajas-Alexander, 6-3, but rallied to win the second set 6-1 and then pulled out the decisive third, 7-5.
However, the Lancers won the other four singles matches, including two three-set matches, to pick up the victory. The doubles’ pro-sets were not played due to impending rain.
UNCG returns to action next Saturday when the Spartans face Charlotte in Greensboro beginning at 11 am.

STATESBORO, Ga. ? No. 75 Florida Atlantic defeated Georgia Southern, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the Hanner Tennis Complex. Senior Emmanuel Nkoueleue (Douala, Cameroon) and junior Joris De Weerdt (Mortsel, Belgium) both won their singles matches, while Nkoueleue teamed with sophomore Borja Malet (Barcelona, Spain) to give the Eagles their lone doubles victory. Georgia Southern fell to 3-4 before opening conference play against Wofford on March 1, while Florida Atlantic improved to 6-2.
The Owls jumped off to a 1-0 start by claiming the doubles point. Malet/Nkoueleue pulled through at one doubles defeating Marc Abdelnour/Joe Cadogan, 8-4. Philip Prins/Matthew Sands fell in a hard-fought tiebreak, 7-4, to Olivier Sajour/Daniel Vartag at the number two spot. With the win at two and another at three, Florida Atlantic claimed the doubles point heading into singles action.
The Eagles captured two singles wins at the one and three spots. Nkoueleue ousted Sajour in straight 6-3 sets. The Douala, Cameroon native improved to 16-5 on the season with the win. De Weerdt took the three seed win in three sets, 6-0, 0-6, 6-0, over Cadogan.
Georgia Southern opens conference play next with Wofford on March 1. First serve is set for noon at the Hanner Tennis Complex.
