COMPLETE CCSA MEET RESULTS 

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. ? The inaugural CCSA Swimming Championships concluded on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008 with the Davidson women taking home the women’s title with 660 points and the College of Charleston men earning the victory with 846 points, with Davidson coach, John Young taking home women’s coach of the year and College of Charleston coach, Bruce Zimmerman earning the men’s coach of the year award.

 
In addition, North Florida’s Melissa Hyams grabbed the female diving coach of the year award, while Florida A&M’s Dr. E. Newton Jackson Jr. earned male diving coach of the year. The top individual performances included Florida Gulf Coast freshman Viktoria Hyddmark, who took home women’s most outstanding swimmer honors, as well as outstanding freshman honors, while Florida A&M junior Mujahid El-Amin earned men’s outstanding swimmer honors. In addition, College of Charleston’s Marc Herbert garnered most outstanding freshman performer. On the diving side, Florida A&M sophomore William McKnight and VMI sophomore Jeff Turner tied for men’s men’s most outstanding diver, while North Florida junior Emily Eisenhower grabbed the honor for the female.

In just his second year as head coach at Davidson College, Young led his team to the inaugural CCSA title and a 7-7 overall regular season record. In his ninth season as head coach at the College of Charleston, Zimmerman led his men’s team to the first-ever CCSA men’s championship title. North Florida diving coach, Hyams earned women’s diving coach of the year after guiding diver of the year, Eisenhower, to two first-place finishes. Florida A&M diving coach, Jackson earned men’s diving coach of the year after leading McKnight to a first-place finish and a second-place finish.

Hyddmark swam her fastest times this season in every event she competed in, earning her three first-place finishes, 73 points and a NCAA Division I B cut time. On day one, she earned her first gold medal, swimming a 2:07.45 in the 200-yard individual medley (20 points). On day two she took first in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 57.11 and earning her another 20 points for the meet. On the final day of competition, the rookie had her best race of the meet and took home her third win in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher (2:00.69) and earning her the NCAA Divison I B cut time. She also earned nine bonus points for setting Conference records in each event and four more bonus points for earning the B cut time.

El-Amin also swam season best times in all three of his events, which earned him three gold medals, 73 points and a NCAA Division I B cut time. El-Amin started of the meet winning the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 20.52 for 20 points. On day two of competition, he captured an NCAA Division I B cut time in the 100-yard butterfly and finished over two seconds faster then the second-place swimmer with a time of 48.17, earning him another 20 points. He ended the meet with the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 45.50 for his third victory. The junior earned 60 points for his first-place victories, nine points for setting Conference records and four points for securing a B cut time.

Herbert tallied one first-place triumph, one second-place finish and one third-place finish for a total of 56 points. He earned his victory in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 50.40 giving him 20 points for the win and three points for setting a Conference record. In the men’s 50-yard freestyle, he earned 17 points with a second-place finish in a time of 21.19 and added 16 points with a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:51.40.

McKnight and Turner each tallied 37 points, with one win and one second-place finish. McKnight earned his first-place finish in the 3-meter dive by collecting 186.10 points, while Turner grabbed the gold in the 1-meter dive by accumulating 196.00 points. Each victory earned the men 20 points. McKnight earned his second-place finish in the 1-meter dive (186.50), while Turner placed second in the 3-meter dive (152.05).

Eisenhower earned two victories and 40 points in the meet, which helped lead her team to a fifth-place finish. In the 1-meter dive she earned 236.25 points in the victory, and earned 266.90 points in the 3-meter dive.
