WCU's Savery Named Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ?The Southern Conference’s track & field coaches selected Kerrie Savery of Western Carolina as the Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week.

 

Savery, a senior from Palm Harbor, Fl., won the 800-meters at the Clemson Tiger Invitational.  Her time of 2:12.71 leads the Southern Conference.  Savery also ran 10:37.93 in the 3,000-meters as well as the first leg of the league leading distant medley relay team.

 

Other Top Performers:

Shaunta Hamilton, a sophomore at Georgia Southern jumped 19-0 feet in the long jump and 39-10.5 feet in the triple jump at the UNC Invitational.  Hamilton ranks in the top four in the conference in both the long jump and the triple jump.

 

Carolina Sanker, a junior from Davidson placed fifth in the 3,000-meters at the Clemson Tiger Invitational.  Her time of 10:04.75 was a personal best.  Sanker is ranked third in the Southern Conference in the 3,000-meters.

 

Honorable Mention:

Monique Edwards, a junior from The Citadel placed seventh at the Clemson Tiger Invitational in the 20 lb. weight throw with a toss of 46-9.25 feet.  Her throw was the second best in school history.  Edwards ranks fifth in the Southern Conference in the 20 lb. weight throw.
