HIGH POINT, N.C. ? Wofford men’s tennis dropped road match to the Panthers of High Point University in High Point, N.C. Friday afternoon, 6-1.
Freshman Paul Bartholomy earned the Terriers’ lone singles point of the match by defeating Jim Trussler at the No. 5 position. Bartholomy won by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Senior Richard Cahi made his debut appearance in singles action today, competing at the No. 6 slot.
Bartholomy also saw success in doubles competition with Cahi as they teamed up to claim Wofford’s only double match win. Playing at the No. 3 spot, Bartholomy and Cahi beat the Panthers’ duo of Julien Antraygues and Ben Deloume 8-6.
“Our effort and attitude at today’s match was exciting,” said head coach Rod Ray. “However, our performance was not perfect, but we tried hard. High Point is a good team. I predict that they will finish the season very high in the Big South Conference. Congratulations to High Point on a good win.”
The Terriers will travel to Greenville, S.C. Sunday for a 10 a.m. match against Yale at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University.

Charlotte edged the College of Charleston, 4-3, in men's tennis action Friday at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex. The Cougars fell just shy despite earning wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles play.
Omer Abramovich earned a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) victory over Felix Bernhoerster at No. 1, while Mikael Boyer took a 6-4, 6-0 decision over Ricky Cuellar at No. 2.
The result hung in the balance down to the final singles match of the afternoon, as freshman Michael Anders upended sophomore Joe Nicolazzi at number-four in a grueling second set, which he won 7-6 (7-5 in a tiebreaker).
The Cougars (2-3) play at Wingate at 11 a.m on Saturday.

Wingate, N.C. -- The College of Charleston men's tennis team shutout Wingate, 7-0, in men's college tennis action at Wingate Tennis Facility on Saturday.
With the win, Charleston improved to 3-3 on the season. The Cougars play at Mercer at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 22. Wingate fell to 1-2.
After earning the doubles point, the Cougars cruised to straight set wins in each singles match. Omar Abramaovich downed Mitchell Lvovsky 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1, Mickael Boyer beat Jose Valarezo 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Steven Myers earned a 6-2, 7-6 win over Braeden Patchell at No. 3 and Joe Nicolazzi blanked Brendan Molan 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

ELON, N.C. ? No. 51 Elon claimed 10 of 12 singles matches and five of six doubles flights as the Phoenix swept Winston-Salem State and Charlotte in a men’s tennis doubleheader Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Phoenix (3-2) fashioned a 7-0 victory over the Rams (0-6) in the morning before forging a 5-2 triumph over the 49ers (5-5) in the afternoon. In the process, Elon extended its home winning streak to 25 matches entering its contest versus Gardner-Webb at 1 p.m. Sunday at the JPTC.
Against Winston-Salem State, Oscar Podlewski (over Brian Coxton 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1), Chase Helpingstine (over Maximilian Glodde 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2), Kevin Beard (over Ryan Lindquist 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3), Cody Stauffer-MacDowell (over Troy Moore 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4), Clark Howell (over Ian Hunter 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5) and Chris Spalding (over Andrew Jones 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6) all emerged successful in singles.
In doubles action with the Rams, the teams of Damon Gooch and Mason Schermerhorn (over Coxton and Hunter 8-1 at No. 1), Stauffer-MacDowell and Howell (over Glodde and Moore 8-1 at No. 2) and Beard and Spalding (over Lindquist and Daren Milbourne 8-1 at No. 3) all collected victories for the Phoenix.
In the singles versus Charlotte, No. 72 Gooch (over Felix Bernhoerster 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1), Podlewski (over Ricky Cuellar 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2), Schermerhorn (over Brad Clinard 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3) and Philip Nemec (over Moritz Bernhoerster 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 at No. 5) all won for Elon. The 49ers earned wins by Michael Anders (over Alberto Rojas 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4) and Chris Huynh (over Stauffer-MacDowell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6).
The Phoenix posted the doubles point when Gooch and Schermerhorn overcame Jesse Hutchinson and Jeff Archer 8-6 at No. 1 and Rojas and Helpingstine toppled Clinard and Huynh 8-3 at No. 3. Charlotte won at No. 2 where Felix and Moritz Bernhoerster stopped Nemec and Podlewski 8-5.
Furman 7, Yale 0
Furman won all six singles matches and three doubles matches to pick up the win. Winning in straight sets for the Paladins in singles competition were Andy Juc, Daniel Knause and Sawyer Duncan. In the closest match of the contest, Furman’s Bo Ladyman held off Yale’s Jeff Dawson 6-7, 6-3, 10-6.
In doubles play, Furman’s Juc and Ladyman won 8-0 at #1 doubles over Yale’s Gary Green and Calvin Bennett. Also picking up doubles wins for the Paladins were the teams of Chris Rhyne and Andrei Chvetsov (8-2), and Jason Basile and Daniel Knause (8-6).
With the win, Furman improves to 1-3 on the season, while Yale falls to 0-2. The Paladins next travel to Atlanta, Ga. on Wednesday to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The men’s team shut out the Lions, 7-0.
With the NCAA Division II-level Lions only having five players available for competition, North Alabama could only field two doubles teams and five singles players on the men’s side.
The Mocs, 6-1, took the first two doubles matches for an early 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Mocs made quick work of the Lions (1-3), with only one match needing an extra set for the decision.
Seniors Badr Bouabdellah and Razvan Axente led the charge with victories at No. 1 and 2 singles respectively. Junior Peter Sauska, who has given up only 10 games in his last seven sets, improved to 7-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Zac Berenicki at No. 3 singles.
Senior Pavel Vostrikov earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4, and freshman Rick van de Bovenkamp used a 10-8 superbreaker to snap a one-set-apiece tie at No. 5, defeating Martin Siejka, 6-1, 3-6, 10-8.
“I was extremely happy with the way the guys played today,” men’s head coach Carlos Garcia said. “We had a good week of practice, and it paid off today.”

DAVIDSON, N.C. With a clean sweep in both doubles and singles play, the Davidson men's tennis team picked up its second straight win with a 7-0 victory over Presbyterian on Saturday afternoon in Knobloch Tennis Center.
Davidson ran its overall mark to 4-2, with all four of its wins coming at home. Presbyterian fell to 1-4.
The Wildcats started the dual match off with a prefect sweep in doubles play for the second straight match. The duo of senior Flaviu Simihaian and Ethan Jaffee led the way, running its doubles mark to a team-best 4-1 with an 8-2 win at No. 1 over Andrew Lee and Matt Martin.
The two then earned their second and third singles wins of the season with victories at No. 1 and 2 as the Wildcats then took all six singles matches for the 7-0 win.
Also earning singles wins was the sophomore duo of Sam Burns and Eric Noble, along with junior Scott Myers and freshman Walker Lyons. The trio of Noble, Lyons and Myers allowed just five games combined in their three matches.
Myers allowed just one game in winning his team-best fifth singles win.
Since an opening season loss at N.C. State, the junior has rattled off five straight singles wins, all in two-set matches.
Lyons has also been on a roll lately, as he earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Henry Walker at No. 4 to pick up his fourth singles win in the past five matches.
Davidson will next play host to its first ranked opponent in recent history when No. 75 Brown comes to town tomorrow at 12 p.m.

GREENSBORO, NC ? UNC Greensboro won three singles matches in straight sets, but it wasn’t quite enough as Gardner-Webb topped the Spartans, 4-3, in men’s tennis action Saturday afternoon.
Rafael Altmeyer pulled out a three-set win over Taylor Befus at No. 5 singles to close out the win. After losing the first set, Befus rallied to win the second, 7-5. However, Altmeyer came back to win the deciding set, 6-3, and clinch the victory.
UNCG got wins from Arsel Kumdereli, Yaroslav Litus and William John at Nos, 2, 3 and 4 singles. Kumdereli topped Andrew Veeder, 6-1 and 6-2, while Litus handled Carlos Quijano, 6-3 and 6-1. John also won over Grant VanRensburg by a pair of 6-4 scores.
UNCG returns to action on Friday when it hosts High Point at 2 pm.
